I can no longer build. The camera zoom Alt Left click, causes my camera to zoom out 10 meters before it can zoom back in. The problem is, my workshop is 9 meters and the camera ends up outside the shop and zooming only gets me to the outside wall. I have to hit Esc several times to get to the normal view, mouse wheel to a closer view, and if I am lucky, try Alt Left click again and maybe zoom to the area required. I tried the First Look Voice viewer and have the same problem. Anyone else have this problem?

I often have this problem if I alt-click on surface with a texture with an alpha channel. If you're zooming around anchoring on your walls, try replacing the texture.

Most likely, it's because your workshop is a cut/hollow prim. I usually have this problem when trying to focus my cam within such a prim's area. It seems that the camera still thinks it's a solid prim, and tries to focus on the outside edges of the prim, rather than whatever is inside the cut/hollow space.
The solution would be to use separate prims for your walls.
