The glowing wireframes that appear when you edit objects are gaudy and excessive.

They are so big and pronounced they obscure what your are looking at.

agreed.

Give us an option to either change the amount of glow, or just turn it off. It's very frustrating when trying to work on small scale objects - especially when texturing.

yes, a simple half transparent line would do. no glow required.

I know how to do that, that is beside the point. Making the program look all glowy and neon to suit one person who likes this sort of thing and is real jolly and good at getting what he wants, while expecting other people to re-perform adjustments to an ini file every two weeks is just silly.

The changes mentioned are done, I belive, in the colors_base.ini file, in the SecondLife\Program Files\app_settings folder of your SL installation, on windows.

Looking there, I would assume the section is"
From: someone

// Outline for selected objects in world
SilhouetteParentColor 255 255 0 255
SilhouetteChildColor 32 106 196 255
HighlightParentColor 255 255 0 255
HighlightChildColor 171 212 245 255

Having to do stuff like this would be alright if this was a program you were writing for your own use but didn't expect anyone else to use, but that is not the case.

Further the changes that you can make don't directly affect the thickness of the "silhouette", only its color and transparency.

There might be some other place to change something related to this, I don't feel like looking it up, I am just working off memory and logic here.

So in the event it not clear enough, I specifically object to having the default silhouette for selected objects be thick, garish, and obscuring, and also I object to the only way of adjusting not only this but many other aspects of the appearance of the user interface being to re-edit text files every two weeks.

I also object to the use of the term "aura" for this, next thing you know objects will have astrological signs and biorhythms.

Agree with Suzanne on this one. Making changes in an .ini file is intimidating to the casual user to say the least, especially if you're expected to go in and change it after every update. Something in Preferences to change the opacity of the glow is a much better option.

While you're at it, can we get a way to change the opacity of the texture selection graphic as well? There are times where it overpowers the texture you're trying to modify and makes it a lil' difficult to see what you're doing.

Yes i agree, it would be a great option to have, but do you also remember what happens when LL gives us shiny new features? They also take something away...

Besides i like muddling around the guts of my SL client. and if i want rainbow hued auras then Ive got to atleast try. atleast they didn't hide it in encrypted format (ex. Config.slf) which would really annoy the average user.

They could take away the slow rezzing and gray loading textures, perhaps? ;)

it seems to me , LL tries to nudge us to impliment our own usage even when the file contains warnings such as EDITING THIS FILE WILL CRASH SecondLife, and such.

I changed most if not all the colors and alphas manually with no problems to my client (I'm still waiting for my FX6200 card) so I'm not too concerned if a color varitiation causes a simple crash when i can always reinstall.

I have to agree many things in SL as far as UI get in the way while editing like the zoom mode and having to wait on the slow poke grey/white texture (.png) and if I can edit and alter the UI then surely i can go in and edit and mabey abolish that grey/white texture...until the next install?

you're giving me ideas :D

I have been wishing to complain about this for ages now, but I am shy/lazy.
Thanks for pointing it. I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE the huge ugly glowy yellow, ever since it exists it makes it very difficult to adjust a bunch of stuff.
And no, I am really, really not the type to go play in a .ini file.

just goto : C:\Program Files\SecondLife\app_settings and open colors_base. Once there look for the lines

// Outline for selected objects in world
SilhouetteParentColor 240 0 205 50
SilhouetteChildColor 0 255 0 50
HighlightParentColor 240 0 205 50
HighlightChildColor 0 255 0 50
// For "context" highlighting, i.e. pie menu
ContextSilhouetteColor 233 200 0 50

I set mine to an alpha of 50 to cut down on some glare. But as you can see by the RGB i have the Parent Prim in Edit Select designated as Pink ( replaced from the standard Peee Yellow ) and the child prims highlighted in Nucleua Green, and what else is cool is I can optionally set the alpha for like say the Drop Down messages you get or Help messages to 50 so now its not so jarring when a linden drops a note onworld (atleast to me). and if i want to keep the settings for future reference ofcourse i'd just make a copy renamed somewhereelse for future installations.

I dont mind doing this stuff myself personally, it's what i came to SL for anyways.

The glare issue is almost a gradient behavior with a refresh call but im sure its controlable as well, still playing with it
