"Communication" Button

I really don't like the Communication button. It's horrible. It clumps everything up into a very badly resizeable window that eats up at least 1/8th of my screen in 1024x768 in its smallest size, and about 1/4 of my screen in its least useable size. Not to mention the History is joined by that horrible 'near me' section, making it virtually impossible to read my history! Now in order to look and see what people have said, I have to read the chat as it appears in the window? NO! This is unbelieveable. I used to have the History up all the time to scroll back to see what I missed in a conversation OR turn the History off and have the chat just scrolling in the main window. Now, even when I have the history up, the chat STILL scrolls through the main window while being displayed in the history and the history window is this little bitty window underneath the 'Near Me' portions.

No, I'm sorry. This new Communcate feature is invasive and extremely unuseful. The history window should function exactly like it did in previous versions: When the History is up, the Chat no longer should display in the main viewer window. When the History is closed, the chat should resume being displayed in the main viewer window. The History should NOT be part of any other window as if some kind of bizarre tacked-on afterthought and should always, always, always be shrinkable to at least a minimum of four lines at any time. I cannot CAN NOT shrink the 'Communicate' window any smaller than 1/8th of my screen AND the Chat is still being displayed even when reading the history. This is unusable and just plain annoying. At the very least, it should be an option in the viewer to set to 'classic' mode or 'new' mode so you can display everything the way you used to have it, or display it the new way instead of having the 'new' way thrust on you every time and discovering you hate it. I really cannot stand having the chat in my visible screen all the time. It is SO invasive.

**Edit: This is while using the First Look viewer. I didn't realize that they were that different between the two, usually I try the First Look first because it tended to work better. The classic UI is just fine on the original viewer. I like the intention of adding Voice Chat, but I sincerely hope that the UI does not become integrated from First Look to the current Main Client.

See https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1550

I've seperated this out from the main "chatterbox" issue at https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1076 to distinguish discussion of improvements to the chatterbox versus discussion of abandoning it all together.

Thanks, this VWR deals with exactly what I was talking about. I just didn't see it on the Forum as I was browsing through so I had to comment. Thanks!
