Maybe the Lindens are trying to come up with new dances and this is their way of finding good ones :O

Several times I've initiated a conversation with an idle friend only to see them suddenly bounce off into space. After I did it several times myself I figured out what was happeneing. Seem sto bea fairly idiotic change to have made, what wa supposed to be the advantage of this?

But you have them when the chat bar is closed. So that always was a option. Now however it is quite anoying to always to clicking in the chat bar before you type or end up bouncing or moving etc. Or have the chat turn off after eachline you send and hit enter to open it for another line, while that does work neither are optimal. Why not give us the option so that chatbar always keeps key focus if it is open or not. Seems like it would be a fairly easy preference to add.

WASD do work half arsed, just have " close chat on enter " , but if you loose focus and hit enter youll start the bounce dance or start something else the selection is on, i had it on animation once and keep starting it -.-

Why hasn't this been fixed yet? I know it's not an official "bug", but it's bugging the hell out of many residents. Why was it even changed? I find it very annoying. That, and "Tab" now cycles through the tool bar at the bottom. That is completely useless. Please change the chat bar focus and Tab button to how they used to be.

It was "fixed" to a degree. It was put back the way it was. That is if your focus is in the world, typing takes back to chat like it shoud. No more jumping around EVERY time you move your camera. However, this old way, though MUCH MUCH MUCH (x100) better than the last couple of updates were, STILL has problems, it always has.

If focus is on the button bar, typing SHOULD focus on chat, it does not, you jump around. IMs seem to now steal focus as well, this should not happen.

So thanks for makeing it better than it has been the last 2-3 weeks, but don't stop looking for ways to make it better still!!!

No it wasn't. The way it was, the "button bar" had no 'focus' at all. It was treated as part of the world. Window keyboard shortcuts didn't work there, any more than they would if it was a HUD object.

That's "the way it was".

When they broke it, they didn't stop treating the button bar as part of the world... they just gave the button bar focus. So when your focus was on the world the button bar intercepted the events. Like I've said elsewhere, I understand why they'd do this, I understand their intentions were good, they just were mistaken... and they've made a mistake in the "fix".

The "fix" was to separate the button bar from the world. And that's the problem... they "fixed" the wrong thing. The button and chat bar are not a "window", they're a special case in the user interface and it's neither necessary nor desirable that they have focus controls.

They need to REALLY TRULY put it back the way it was.

Agreed. It is certainly not the way it was before they "fixed" it. I stlll end up jumping or moving at times when I never used to have that. It is better, but still NOT the way it was originally.

Response from Torley...

I sent a copy of this to Torley, and got this response:
From: Torley in IM
Okay, what I found out--it wasn't intentional to change the chat bar as you describe. It happened by accident, because of changes made to the way all buttons in general behave.

1.12 should actually behave better because it fixed some things to bring it back to "the old way"--please let me know how Preview works for you?
