I was using the Release Candidate beautifully until the download with WindLight. I have ATI Radeon Xpress 200 and was unable to see the beautiful skies and water reflections.
So I followed the download links provided by SL and uploaded the ATI Catalyst. It was great! Everything was fast, fast! The sky was gorgeous and the water terrific! But in about 10 minutes it was all I could do to move at all.
So I went back to the regular viewer. Same thing.. 10 minutes and nearly frozen.
A friend told me to uninstall the catalyst and install Omega.
I did, and though the skies and water were gone again at least I could function.
Yesterday I went back to the regular viewer and my IM's didn't come through and went directly to email though I could chat with them through IM. Their response never showed except in my email.
Today I went on the Release Candidate and unless an avatar is standing on my toes, they are invisible except for attachments. I went back to the regular viewer and same thing.
I can't work in here like this. The frustrating problems with every viewer is not only no fun, I'm having a hard time trying to find a reason to even be inworld. Too many viewers suddenly available all at once? Maybe. Too many different sim servers? Maybe.
And the Bug Reporting area has gotten so messy I don't even bother anymore. There are so many bugs reported with no signs of any solutions, and it would take me all day just to see if my problems are listed.
Maybe the most intelligent thing to do at this point is work on fixing one viewer before adding another dozen or so.
I'll check back now and then to see if anything is better but don't count on me trying to do any work right now. I don't come here for frustration...there is enough of that in rl.

As each client progresses towards giving all the current eye candy, so will the minimum requirements. You are using an Express version of a GC which is virtually fallen off the required specs table. As that happens, so does the eye candy.
I assume you have turnned off the VBO buffers (Windlight, Graphics tab in preferences, click the Hardware Settings button, uncheck VBO), make the GC setting from the OS or Catalyst control panel 'Let application decide'. Don't be surprised if things start to get cartoony with each release. Maybe Time to catchup on the specs?

Or maybe about time IT (including LL) start to rethink some of their strategies a little? http://brielmusik.de/?q=node/663 - little blog entry about a song I just found, I wrote a translation for the German lyrics too, it just fits *perfectly*.

ATI Radeon Xpress 200 DirectX 9 OpenGL 2.0 hypermemory (ick avoid avoid) Mobility has horrible drivers There finally Anyway, onboards = horrible bad things you dont want to use to render heavy things with, and SL is getting more "bling" to do new things, about time i say, if you cant run it? tough, progress will leave older unsupported vid cards in the dust, please dont hold back new things just cause x people cannot render them -.- /stoneage?
