Are CLass 4 owners being punished?

Maybe I am being a bit paranoid but it seems to me that the past 3 months have been incredibly tough as a Class 4 island owner. The lag has been bad enough that I have had to almost DAILY restart my estates.
The occurrence of sim failures has also been unacceptable. I pay out a pretty good chunk of cash every month for maintenance and at this point I am wondering if that money is really worth it since LL seems to be going out of their way to make life miserable on my islands.

My main concern here is that this is being done to force me to upgrade to class 5 simulators, which is something I would really like to avoid if at all possible. The extra 100$ USD to me would be sending good money after bad since in my opinion support levels and reliability would not improve.

Are any other Class 4 owners feeling the same kind of squeeze from LL?

Have you noticed a increase of those sims being offline? The hardware is outdated and needs updating fast. Sooner or later they are going to have to upgrade those stations.

Bah. Humbug. Classic attempt to make us upgrade and shell out the extra dough. Did you hear the one about them making us class 4 sim owners pay extra for voice after November of this year while mainland people and class 5 sim owners get it for free? This was not told to us before the 'sell your class 4 sim and upgrade' cut off date in February. A week after the cut off date they announce voice is apremium service that class 4 sim owners would not recive for free. So as it stands any new 'premium' services that come along we would have to pay extra for. Effectively lowering the resale value of our islands or raising the price so high that we have no choice but to upgrade.

I was alone in the waters until they decided to move that camping island BRAZIL right next to me. One hundred avatrs camping 15 hours a day. Imagine the discomfort.

I'm not one to buy into conspiracy theories, BUT...... I frequent an older Class 4 sim. It seems every day there is a restart.

Why are they even crashing though? That's a software issue, not hardware.

As for hardware; unless they're buying a ton of cheap-crap Dell servers where you expect them to occasionally explode, then the machines should last a lot longer than they seem to be. Class 4 sims are not that far behind class 5, and are mostly harmed by the pitiful amount of RAM in them, it would be better (and cheaper really) to just have more RAM put in during a down-time because they aren't much slower computationally.

I've had server machines that last a good 5 years without failure (or with only a single component failing here and there like a bad RAM chip or a drive that needs rebuilt). If LL's simulator software is getting more demanding then there is a serious problem with LL's development strategy, because their simulator software needs MORE performance, not less!

What kind of lag? Where's the sim spending time, when you look at the Time section in the stats bar?

I haven't noticed that at all on our sim. There does seem to be a general increase in lag everywhere in SL though, estates and mainland the last month or so.

Crashing? Hmm must have missed that, my Class 3 mainland runs better tham most islands due propbably to the fact 10% of the land is Gov Linden, Half of the land is residents who haven't logged in for years, and only 3 of us share the rest, with no clubs.

Hmm you know them do you, they seem to have ignored every "hello" IM I've ever sent them in last 9 months. Their buildings are always empty and unchanged too.

I have 3 Class 4 sims and have had some of the things you describe sometimes and not others, I know several people with Class 5s and they have the SAME issues.

In general Class 5s do better with things like scripts but when network connectivity is bad or griefers are running a mok, it hits everyone the same and that seems to be the most common problems lately.

Yes, I've noticed my Class 5 sims are a lot more problematic lately, i think it's just the grid in general. But I'm sure it has a more noticable effect on Class 3's and Class 4's.

I'm subscribed to this thread because I've noticed awful performance, for the past few weeks, on a sim where I'm an estate manager: Average time dilation is now between .8 and .9, it drops down to .6 way too often, and it's not abnormal anymore to see .2 or below. And nothing's changed as far as content goes, of that I'm sure. There's nothing interesting or new in the Top Scripts, except the fact that all the scripts have higher execution time when the time dilates. I don't visit other sims often enough, but still I think performance is poor on other sims I visit too.
