What changes does one need to make to get the shortcuts of the form secondlife;//ahern/128/128 to work with the 1.8 preview? I did what I thought might work in the Registry Editor and had no luck so far .
I want to click on a link in the ROAM Search The Metaverse pages and have it bring up the preview grid or teleport me directly there if the preview is already running.

Is doesn't actually do what I said I wanted, which is to have links from ROAM Search The Metaverse bring up the preview girid.
But it does work , there has to be somewhere you can change which program is called with seoondlife://ahern/128/128 style links.
The links on ROAM search are in secondlife://ahern/128/128 form, I want to trick the sytem into acting as if they say secondlifepreview instead of just secondlife.
Of course Rathe could just make a ROAM Preview Grid Search page with the links in the right format to call the preview grid, that would be a nicer solution by far.

you can do a taskbar Start, Run , and put the secondlifepreview://ahern/128/128 in the command field and it didn't teleport me directly there, but rather displayed the map and when i clicked the teleport button it took me to ahen 15, 4.
I want it to take me where I tell it to in a public area like ahern and without the map.

Ahern has a landing point set so you'll end up in the telehub area where the landing point is, try Morris which doesnt have landing points set, you can also type the address into the address bar of your browser and hit enter, im sure it always open the map though, it only doesnt do that when you dont have the program started and want to log in somewhere else

Preview URLs
12-04-2005 22:34
SuezanneC Baskerville: I tried editing the registry in Windows to get the secondlife:// URLs to go to the preview client. The keys are:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/secondlife/shell/open/command and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/secondlifepreview/shell/open/command
You can copy the (Default) key from the second to the first and it should open up the preview client. Save the original command so that you can revert the change later. In fact, make a backup of your registry before you do any of this.
New water is shiny. I like new water.

Thanks, Yellowbear, that is the same approach I was trying except I was filling in the open command by hand instead of by cutting and pasting and I must have been making a mistake that I just couldn't see. With my eyes that could be literal inability to see, not just inability to figure out.
Now that it works right, I pulled up the ROAM search page and put in Ahern, this brought up a link for the welcome area, clicking on that brought up the preview client at the telehub with the map open.
Then clicking on the canoe link in ROAM search brought up the map with the coords set for the canoe area, clicking teleport goes right in front of the dock.
Putting Rizal into ROAM search produces a link to the Jetball game, click that up comes the map set to those coords, click teleport and there you are right in the middle of the Jetball court, with no uniform or gun.
If anyone else fiddles with these and messes up these parts of the registry, reinstalling the regualr and preview SL programs should fix it.

From: Mod Faulkner I downloaded the preview program but it will not let me login with my current password. Keeps saying to check capslock. Mod You may not have been signed up with SL long enough, the preview uses a copy of the user database from a while ago, I think October 17th is the cutoff. If you were registered then but can't get in you might have changed your password; you would need to use the old password from back then.

Logon Problem
12-08-2005 01:28
I have been registered since early October and have not changed my password from the first time I logged on. I requested assistance from SL support. but their replay was that they were not supply support for the review prgram and that I should seek assistance here. If someone will tell me who to contact I will do that. While, I am having no trouble loggin on to the "real" SL, the preview program keeps telling me to check my caps lock.

MOD I heard about a problem one person was having because, of all things, the number associated with the preview girid server ending with 255. Those last 3 digits used to be somewhat reserved for broadcasts, and some older routers won't accept the type of connection the preview grid needs as a result. I have no real hope that your specific problem would just happen to be one that I just randomly heard a solution to, but the person with this problem managed to solve it by updating his router software (or firmware or whatever), after 4 and a half hours of sleuthing. Let's try this: if the user database had you in it then you wouldn't be having problems because you aren't in the user database. That makes sense, eh? ... I had to download a new version, of course. ... Well now that I installed the new veriosn it says Secondl Life is temporarily closed. Doesn't that figure.

From: Travis Bjornson They still are. x.x.x.255 is not a valid IP address... if that's what you mean. I am just repeating what I think I was told. It could well be wrong - but wrong or right the guy started out not able to access the preview grid and after updating the router's software he was able to access the preview grid. It could have been a coincidence. ---------- Ok, now I finally managed to get in the preview, and Mod Faulkner is listed., showing a start date of 10/9/05. Someone who joined tonight I don't find. Somewhere people seemed to be fairly sure 10-17 was the database snapshot date, but Mod's start date was the 9th. Perhaps we could get an officlal cutoff date from a Linden employee instead of guessing?

Oop, I stand corrected. In some cases, x.x.x.255 is valid. Then x.x.x.0 would probably be valid in those cases too. But some software might mistakenly assume that it's invalid.
