Fix after so called fix.... So I decided to go away for a while from SL and do something else like play Battlefield 2142 or something... You know... something that works!!! Anyway.... So I decide why not come back in SL and try to get some of my buildings done that I so love to work on... And what happens within an hour? GRID ISSUES!!!! Good god man!!! Come on!!! How much more of this can we take I mean really... Its non stop it seams. I have tried so hard to give SL the benefit of the doubt in hopes that they would get some of these issues under control but no. And don't give me this "Its because they openned the doors to non paying people". Don't you think they should have thought of the traffic they would get before openning the damn door?.... hhhhhmmmm? There is only one group to blame for this mess and their last name starts with an L. Its not like they are not making any money to fix this crap! Stop being cheap and hire some real damn engineers already before you loose everyone in here or sell the damn company to somebody who will fix this stuff instead of crossing their fingers day after day and praying for the best. I.T. Don't work that way and anyone who works I.T. knows it. Its called having production and a SIT. Test this crap in SIT first and stop throwing junk into production month after month. Just once I would love to log into SL without crap either hanging out of my butt, or my body not showing up, or inventory being hi-jacked, or my L's not showing up.... Shall I go on? God knows the list goes on for miles and god knows we have all said it at least twice! Hello? Is anyone home at SL headquarters? Knock knock... Customers knocking! You know the people who pay your damn bills by being on this thing! Its been months and months and nothing but issue after damn issue. Don't get me wrong, I love SL and the people in it... It's the people running the show that scare the hell out of me. I feel like a damn mouse in a scientific institute getting experimented on only at my own cost. So lets try again shall we just for the hell of it... OH LOOK! I got in! But no L's, No body, and can't do a damn thing but hey! I'm connected! WHHHHOOOOPPP!
This is sad and all I can say in one other thing.... As a famous quote from a WWE wrestler........
"DAMN!"
I'm sorry folks but I had to vent... I am just really getting tired of this... This damn game stresses me out more then my 8 to 5 job! Second Life? Hell give me the first one at this point.. Its less stress.
Signed... My two cents

It only get worse

VooDoo, Your rant is right on the money. Here's the problem.. Below is a from Linden Labs web page about Linden Labs
Linden Lab is a privately held company established to develop an extraordinary new form of shared 3D entertainment. Through its first product, "Second Life," Linden Lab offers a truly collaborative, immersive and open-ended entertainment experience, where together people create and inhabit a virtual world of their own design.
This is the first problem...privately held...and... they are making money hand over fist. If the money dried up or profits were substantially reduced then we might be able to expect salvation from SL being sold to another company that might actually reinvest as opposed to just reaping the profits. Then we might actually have a company running SL that would be interested in "a truly collabrative, immersive and open-ended entertainment experience..."
Founder Philip Rosedale is the former CTO of RealNetworks, where he pioneered the development and deployment of streaming media technologies. Linden Lab is funded by a group of notable early stage investors including Mitch Kapor, founder of Lotus Development, Catamount Ventures, and Benchmark Capital.
I see another problem right here. RealNetworks...hmmm developer of the extremely lame realplayer. When is the last time that you've actually seen someone use that in favor or even windows media player? Perhaps there was a bit too much reliance on this CTO's experience from failure. SL sure does behave like the early versions of realplayer. and you know...it describes Philip as former... maybe there is a reason there.
Ultimately, if we like second life we're stuck with all the glitches, crashes, grid issues, networking etc. The reason. They are the only game in town. Most improvements in any technology usually comes from competition. Unfortunately SL has no real competition...
Until there is something similar where SL residence can go and cancel accounts there will be no real improvement. Thats the reality of it.
and we rant just for rantings sake...it can only get worse.

and we rant just for rantings sake...it can only get worse. i agree, perhaps if EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE stop paying for phillips imported water and such, perhaps that would get thier attention? i love SL but as of late, its become like the op says more stressful than rl. and yes realplayer bites, so that should have been my clue to run for the hills, but im addicted now. i say we start a revolution and hold sl hostage profit wise perhaps that will get the much needed upgrades to thier servers and such to make this game fun again. but then again........

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

From: Maggie McArdle i agree, perhaps if EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE stop paying for phillips imported water and such, perhaps that would get thier attention? This is the one and only way you will see anything done to really fix these problems. Only a mass exodus of paying members (sim owners, premium accout holders) and the loss of that money will get them moving. Companies exist to make money, as long as they are making money they have little reason to to change anything. Thats whats happening here, with the huge rise in accounts and incoming cash, why change anything?

But who will do it?
02-13-2007 13:25
I agree wholeheartedly, but who will actually have the guts to cancel their premium accounts and massive land they own? I cancelled my premium account and went to basic when I could no longer count on tp'ing, inventory failing to load, showing no linden dollar balance, etc. But if nobody's willing to take the risk and stand up and say I object to this! nothing will ever happen and all we are doing is complaining about something that will not change.

anyone paying real money for this is crazy. why pay for something that is this buggy? the good news is they open sourced, and running our own sims is not far off now, and we can control who will get on our own servers and free land like Activeworlds, maybe we will see more citys constructed like in Activeworlds were ppl can worktogether for free. and store our own inventorys on our own hard drive where we can make backup copys and serach/sort/organize they way we want it. hopefully lindens will open there network to connect to these other universes otherwise the better server wins and with SL's track record they start out in lastplace -LW
