I have only been on SL for about a month. It was enough to get me hooked. Prior to the new version it was working great. Now, I can log on but then freeze up, can't move or teleport. Friends say that they see me disappear and go offline when to me it looks like I'm still inworld. Occasionally when I have tried to log on my avatar will walk a few steps and then continue to plow through everything, buildings, water, etc. The only way to stop is to log out. I have upgraded my driver, uninstalled SL, redownloaded it, cleared the cache, relogged about 50 times. Nothing is working. I just want my old SL back! How could it go from working great to not working at all?

There are many posts about lag in SL... here is a breif recap for you:
Ingame:-
Preferences -
Draw distance set to 96 or 64
Particles set to 50 or less
Fog set to 2.0
Bandwidth - set to 2/3rds of your connection speed.
Cache, set to the largest size you can afford on your hard disc.
Turn off - Avatar Vertex, Bump and Shiny, Local lights
Composite layers set to 2
Terrain detail set to low

On your PC:-
Defrag your hard disc regularily
Use a registery cleaner
Turn off auto updates in XP - Use manual updates
Don't run other programmes that aren't for the security of your system like antivirus, firewall etc.

Its only a breif list... but should help.

Go to http://www.download.com and download:
Spybot Search and Destroy
AdAware
Spyware Blaster
CCleaner

Run these things once a week to help keep your PC running in tip-top shape! They are all free tools.
Also, if you need an antivirus but don't have cash, go to http://free.grisoft.com and get AVG Free AntiVirus :)
(My computer company charges $60US/hr to install and run these programs for customers... you can do it for free yourself! ;))

Thankyou for your help.

I didn't end up having to do anything since after they re-opened the grid today my game started working great again. They must have fixed something that was affecting it.
Thanks again, I am once again a happy resident of SL!

A quick tip. How much memory do you have? If you have less than 1GB at least, you are going to have issues.

Exceed all of the pc requirements

Hi, thanks for the reply. My system exceeds all of the requirements and my issues have been resolved since the grid came back online today. Whatever they did in those two hours seems to have fixed it.
