It's obvious that linden labs has absolutely no intention of fixing the most serious of issues, and wants to keep pounding away at stuff no one cares about, like windlight.
I just discovered today that neither the linux nor the os x version of Second Life know the difference between POSIX termination signals. I know that not many of you know what those are either, but it is sufficient to say that *any* programmer who comes into contact with a POSIX compliant operating system, like os x (and linux to a very slightly lesser degree) should know what POSIX termination signals are, write their code accordingly.
I'm saying that this is elementary. I'm saying that my 14 year old nephew knows what POSIX signaling is.
I'm saying that at this point, it's all moot. I've started compiling a really wonderful list of precisely how NOT to write or port code to Unix and Unix-like platforms, and I have decided to solely use examples from Linden Labs, since they've covered just about all of them. Repeatedly.
I'll be giving a lecture on how awful ports like this can be, and using Linden Labs as the only example at a conference this year. I'm tired of Linden Labs never listening to its customers, and the ousting of the CTO hasn't changed a damn thing----except now the copy in the "blog" over there is a wee bit more polished and somewhat annoyingly coddling.
So screw it, Linden Labs, I don't think you'll EVER be competent. You've had more than enough chances.

Well, its open source, you could always fix it and submit the patches. I'm sure LL would be grateful for your help.

A number of companies intentionally open-source their linux code exactly because linux isn't a top priority or core competency of the company, and they feel the product is best served by being open for the linux community to improve. It's far better than just saying "to heck with linux" and remaining Windows-only like most developers. Besides, what have POSIX termination signals done for me lately?

Lets see, the CTO has been gone less than a month in the middle of the holidays and no replacement has been announced yet. (to my knowledge) Yeah, I expect things should have changed over night.
