Avatar having jerky spasms since 1.6 update

Hiya

Wasn't sure where to post this, but this forum seemed appropriate ?

Since the 1.6 update, my avatar keeps going into spasms occasionally, like it's jumping between two stand states - creates a jerky 'tap dancing' effect but all limbs sometimes affected so looks like having a fit or something. Haven't figured out exactly what or when triggers it. I've heard that others are also suffering from the problem...

I think this may possibly be triggered by the Animation Over-rider I usually wear (it's an Open Source Wet Ikon 1.5 loaded with a variety of anims, some of the stand poses of which are animated), however when I turn off or detach the AO, the spasms do continue for a while even when reverted to the default SL stand pose....

Any ideas or suggestions ?

Yeah, I stuck some Green Day on iTunes whilst playing SL and the effect looked much better :D

...but I think the effect is affecting the Animation Over-rider in some way, and I have seen other avies doing the same spasmic thing in world. If I remove the AO the effect *will* stop, however if I just turn off the AO, the effect may continue, so I have a vague feeling it may simply have something to do with wearing avatar animating attachments. Haven't done any proper experiments though so far. It is only since 1.6 that the effect has occurred.

There *are* strange things going on with transparent objects, I've crashed the Dacia sim a few times in the last few days by simply putting a necklace on, or just rezzing things.

Ditto. My avatar has been twitchy since 1.6 too. Must be the crack.

Yup, I call this the "shuffle bug", avatars look all fretty and restless and start to twitch their arms and knees, not in a manner as to be sudden and spasmodical, but nevertheless nervous and unhinging to some. (Not me though as I'm used to repetitive motions.)

This affected the last few versions of the Preview -- it's an odd thing, those having a fit may not be able to see themselves doing so, but others can.

File Bug Reports accordingly as they happen so we can assist LL in tracking down the prob. Something's definitely up. :)

This jerky movement occurs even without an animation override, and it seems to occur when you rotate your avatar. There is a "dead area" for rotation when the camera is directly behind your avatar or off to one side a little (maybe a thirty degree arc, total), in which your avatar doesn't move but the camera does while rotating. When you get to the edge of this dead zone, your avatar then begins to turn with the camera.

What I've noticed is that if you stop rotating and leave the camera at the edge of the dead zone, your avatar twitches between the "turning" animation and the "standing" animation. You can prevent this little twitch dance if you turn just a little bit in the opposite direction from the way you were just turning. For example, after rotating left, tap the right arrow (or D key) once or twice to put the camera back in the dead zone. This will keep your avatar from looking like it's about to wet itself. :)

I find this new behavior annoying, and certainly bug-worthy, but at least I can work around it. My theory is that this new twitch is a result of the new mouse-based avatar steering added in 1.6. I'm not advocating removal of mouse-steering (far from it! I love the new steering mechanism), but it would be nice if they can remove the twitching.

Yessss Chandra ...precisely.

It also explains why my AO seemed to be crapping out; it wasn't, it was just out of this 'zone' and stuck in 'turning' mode. By lightly tapping back as you suggest, I can re-engage the AO stand poses.

Thanks for the workaround solution ! ... and I think you're right, it may be related to this new avatar steering system....

Still a bug though ! ....

Well I'm getting more adept with the workaround, back-twisting with the arrows each time I move to avoid the effect, but still no fix in 1.6.2 I notice......*sigh*, another hoop to jump through....hope a fix for this comes soon, I see a lot of other avies around also look like they have fleas though :D

Spazzing bug still here in 1.6.3, seen it using a different avi too, no anim over-rider involved there....
