the crosshairs have been missing for me on all of the 1.6 preview builds as of yet (on two different hardware platforms)

Possible cause: If you used the Video Viewer that gives you a 'head up' display by replacing the mouselook crosshair texture with video, I heard and observerved that there is a bug in that after you leave the video viewer the original mouselook texture is not recovered. Fix: Relog.
