First Land Leasing?

Perhaps instead of selling first land to new premium accounts, a continent or so could be set up for first landers to pay the L$512 and get a plot of 'first land' on a lease type deal. Similar to private islands, LL could prohibit resale, but the land would belong to the user so long as he or she desired it. In short, unflippable first land.

However, I have a feeling LL wants to get rid of first land so they can make more money auctioning off sims rather than cutting them up and giving them away for a pittence. LL now sees itself as too big to give a rat's butt about the users.

Some people have made other similar suggestions, and I think they all tend to make "First Land" into more of a "long term sandbox". Maybe I'll make a feature suggestion of a "long term sandbox" like that:

* Only available for new premium users.

* You buy land for L$1 per square meter.

* You can sell the land, but only to another new premium user.

* It reverts to sandbox mode a month after purchase.

Then what would the point be? The point of first land is to let premium users get a good taste of land ownership. The ability to terraform land, building yes, but also the ability to maintain a home, to keep within a prim limit. Shunting them out after a month is no solution. This needs to be the users land until he or she decides they no longer need it, say when they buy another lot on the regular market. Like first used to only be for those who hadn't bought other land, so this would function. The lot is yours for as long as you like, provided you buy no more land in SL. If you did then you would have to sell or loose your land at the end of the month. First land may sometimes be used as sandbox land, but some folks just want a little home to call their own. All I know how to build is stuff that comes in a kit, yet I love homes and buildings here, made by someone else.

I agree, completely. That's why I have opposed any restrictions in what people could do with First Land once they bought it right from the start... what I wanted to see to keep the bots out were restrictions in what accounts could get First Land in the first place. Basically, all these restrictions (including yours) make First Land more like a "sandbox". So why not go all the way?

I got lucky and *won* a piece of first land and I must say - I'm keeping it for as long as I can. Yes its a pokey little 512. Yes my neighbours are probably p'eed because I don't have a house. Yes I leave stuff lying around and don't have a thousandth of the time I was planning on to play there. But its mine. And I love it and will continue to experiment. If I could lease sandbox areas for, say, a week with the same benefits then that would change things but right now *this is my land*

If they were interested in saving the first land program and wanted to end abuse of the system, then all they had to do was make first land only available if you purchase a quarterly or yearly membership plan.

Interesting idea.

I'm not sure quarterly is enough... US$22 - L$ 3600 + L$512 ... would still net you a profit of about L$3000 when you sold the land.

Don't forget the $9.95 for dropping back to basic, if they are doing that still.
