With the average SL user, the inventory accumulates more items with use. It has been suggested that something more reasonable should be done with the "Library" folder in our inventory. Most people take from it what is needed when they are new to SL and then never look at it again. Others open it on rare occasions to retrieve an item from it.
Is there a way to provide the items found in this folder in world? Users could go there and get the items they would like and keep what they need rather than having to keep it all? Places like the orientation islands and Luna. Set up with great displays, people could rummage through the mock up stores and select what they need rather than be forced to take it all. Along with that, and forced to keep it all.
Is there a way to make the "Library" folder temporary? After a specific amount of time, the user could then manage, move, and delete objects from that folder.
We should be able to control our own inventory and not be forced to keep what LindenLab believes we all need to have. Help control the inventory population by giving us more control.

I think all you have to do is add -noinvlib to your SL shortcut. (^_^)y

Though I haven't been around anywhere near as long as you have, I found that I started using the Library more, rather than less, as I moved outta the 'newbie' stage.
I don't think it actually costs anything to have it in inventory - what would removing it buy us/you/people?

I use textures from it where possible, in the (probably misguided) assumption that the more people who use them across the board, the faster things can load. Plus some of them are perfectly good for my needs.
I did however recently just gut my inventory from 6500 items to 2700 items, organising everything into logical folder structures within the pre-defined folders (objects, textures etc.) and it's made a huge difference. If I can stick to it then gone are the days of a 3000 long list of unsorted items in my objects folder!

The Library isn't included in the inventory total, so it doesn't matter. Plus, they do add new items to the Library every so often, such as the recent (about a month ago, I think) inclusion of several new avatars.
This may have been different in the past which would explain your confusion, considering you joined SL at the end of 2003.
