Not finding anything in either wiki for this, but how exactly are we supposed to set the Proxy settings?

I am not sure where I am trying to log in from has a SOCKS proxy, and I notice the radio button only shows SOCKS4 and SOCKS5. Is there a way I can verify my proxy type via ping or something?

Also, what is the "No Proxy" field for?

Thank you.

If you have been able to use SL previously then you probably don't need or want a proxy and should choose the 'No Proxy' option. However if your network uses a proxy the same settings for your web browser would probably work here.

With the exception that the 'protocol version check' still doesn't use the socks4/5 proxy at all =) Which means that those of us behind a firewall still cannot use it, unfortunately.

Here's what happens.

SL issues a DNS request for the version server.
If it recieves a reply: It establishes an outbound connection from port 12034-> server:12036.

Unfortunately, it does not use the socks4/5 proxy for that request; therefore, most of us still cannot connect. =)

Is there any timeline for making this setting ever work?

In some occasions, I tend to get frustrated doing SL presentations behind firewalls... :-(

So anything going to happen with this? There really needs to be a way to use SL behind a firewall. A Socks Proxy would be fine. Or a proceedure to use ssh static forwarding...
Thanks in advance!

Proxy / Firewall / Socks5 Resolution? Help! Help!

Has anyone from this thread been able to solve this?

I'm having a new problem with the latest version of SL... basically I had a proxy tunneling solution all set up (using proxycap/winsocks) because my work firewall blocks all ports above 1024 -- and everything was working until this last upgrade.

Basically I can confirm my tunnelling server (socks5) is working and my local software that redirects all of SL through port 81 to tunnel to the server (proxycap) is also working (and has worked fine in all previous SL versions), but now it's not.

I'm wondering if anybody else has been having this problem and/or if any network gurus or Lindens out there can help little 'ol me? :( It's definitely something in the new SL, since I haven't touched my proxy/client software which works fine with other software...

I totally agree with other other posters that if Linden Labs would simply implement a full proxy solution instead of just the fake one there, that fully ran all requests out through the port you enter in Preferences, then everything would be working perfectly for all! :)
