I've tried several of the newer viewers since the 1.19 (5) series and always went back to using my old standard SOLID (5). I log off for all of ten minutes and when I come back I am forced to upgrade from my solid viewer. I did/do have the 1.20.15 on this system for in world picture taking and that one bogs me down so much (believe me, my system is NOT antiquated) that each time I relog, my cache clears and I'm back at rez hell. Now it is MAKING me upgrade to a version .17 (is .02 really that much of a difference?) in order to even log in. I'm sure I can tweak things here and there to speed up the rez issues (possibly the cache clearing crash), but what about those out there who simply don't have the system to handle these huge upgrade files? Are they to be left on the roadside with nary a glance? I'm all for progress, but good lord, enough is enough already. SL (in my limited time) has surpassed even the dreaded AOHELL in the area of gotta have this, gotta have that, update here, update there, update every other day. My land... slow down. Work the code tighter and bugfree (as much as possible) and test drive it more than a week before putting it out there. I mean really, I haven't been in world a year yet and there have been at least 8 - 10 viewer changes since then. One could say that this Panther is not a happy camper at having to drudge through yet another MUST have viewer, rez hell and slow mo movement once I install this viewer. Ugh.. In the end.. word to the wise. Upgrading the most basic user out of access will only shrink the SL world. Not sound business moves.

You should have been around back about three years ago.............we had these mandatory "upgrades" almost weekly. But this upgrade is a little different......it's a security issue that LL felt must be addressed with a mandatory update. I just upgraded.......no issues for me so far.

1.19 was the last version that worked on my aging computer. Running 1.20 will require upgrades to my system, both hardware and OS, that I can't afford at this time. With this forced upgrade, Linden Labs has effectively kicked me out of Second Life.

Forced Updates Yet Again
10-06-2008 22:13
This is BS, I have hundreds of dollars in SL and can't even take them out because I can't log in. I am getting tired of loosing hundreds of dollars everytime they do this!!! I have businesses to run and last time this happend I couldn'tl og in for a week! Get it together Linden labs or my money will no longer be "In World!" Why? Because by the time I can log back in all my tiers will be due and I will be evicted from all my properties!
IDIOTS!!!

I agree..this forced upgrades is a bunch of crap..I too was running the 1.19 version and forced to do this upgrade after I crashed. Now its all choppy for me even with the new drivers from ati.LL why cant you just leave us run the veiwer we want and that works for us?Do you wantto force a lot of us out of the game?Is that your goal? Why the forced upgrades.

Maybe we should be blaming the people threatening our security rather than those trying to improve it.

I just want my trusty, ran just fine on my computer 1.19.5 back. Why not have the option to just download the patch instead of forcing an upgrade? I've been playing MMOs for years now and 90% of them have simple patches instead of having to get a whole new client.

Ever think that maybe it was the old client itself that was the problem? SL is not your run of the mill MMOG. I'm sure there is a work around somewhere you might find to get your old 1.19 viewer back up and running......but then when you get hacked or exploited you'll be right back here whining.

Iy comes in a non Windlight 1.19.5 verseion as well as a version corresponding to the current viewer. Both have the security fixes added. You can get them here: http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/I'm using the Non WL version and it is working great.

Um if I get hacked or exploited I'll be complaining to the people who make my firewall first. And this forced upgrade is a security patch. That's all it is. And you're right, it's not a typical MMO. The MMOs I've played have servers in multiple locations and so outages were rare if they happened at all. They also had regularly scheduled maintenance and bug/security patch downloads available instead of having to download a whole new client. But that would make too much sense.

From: Hatshepsut Saeed Um if I get hacked or exploited I'll be complaining to the people who make my firewall first. The exploit would involve a spoofed source address in the packet's IP header, unfortunately there's no way anything could tell the difference between it and a packet that truly originates from the simulator.
