That is a system that worked perfectly for my needs. Perfectly.
Now we have a system that requires study before use. Apparently it also requires arcane knowledge, as suggested by Torley in the Answers section, in order to bypass it entirely and get rid of what is possibly the most annoying feature ever known to mankind: the flash and freeze.
We shouldn't have to launch into a huge study of LL photography just to take a picture of a house for the cover of a box. As someone else put it, some of us are happy with our point-and-shoots and really don't need the $5,000 camera with all the dials and bells and whistles to learn.
For those who would like to make a huge study of photography, fine. But for those of us who were just fine and happy, can't we have the old system back as an option?
In future, I really would like to suggest you bear in mind the possibility that not everyone using a feature is going to be as gung-ho about making it as techy and complicated as possible as the person at LL who designed it obviously is.
You shouldn't be taking things that are simple and work beautifully, and replacing them with complex systems that take study to learn (and that is if you know where to look to find the information Torley gives about where to REALLY look for it).
"User-Friendly" - it's not just last decade's motto. What take things and purposely make them more difficult to use? Really, it seems like almost every feature put in SL lately (as opposed to the fabulus P2P) is something designed to make my work as a builder harder, crankier, more time-consuming, and less effective, with added bugs to work around as a bonus. This is not a good trend! This is not progress to me!
In this case, could you just give us back the old system as an option? Whatever this new system offers, I don't need it now, and if I ever decide I do, I could learn it then.

*applauds*
The new photo system has precisely ONE good feature, in my book. I can finally turn off the imaging of HUD items in my snapshots. But if the price of that is to be blinded while every image is fiddled with... I'm not at all happy.
Mind you, in RL I'm a pretty skillful photographer, well able to make studied compositions with an advanced 35mm camera.
90% of the photography that I do involves taking multiple, rapid-fire pics, timed to capture a particular instant in the activity, while some sort of activity that I am directly involved with is in-progress on the screen. In short, I use snapshots like a camera with a motor drive, shoving the rezzed pics to one side so I can decide what to keep when there is a break in the action. I can't afford to be blind, deaf and dumb while the snapshot rezzes, and while I decide if that particular camera angle or cropping is just right.
I'm sure this will be just spiffy for taking carefully studied product pictures of static architectural builds, or for certain types of fashion photography with a static pose-ball for the model to stand on. But for most of my photography that I do, to share precious moments with my friends? The new system is the pits.
And for Goddess sake, if we MUST be saddled with this new system, can you at least make it REMEMBER the darned preference settings? Having to reset everything for every shot is insane.

I'm sure the new version may have benefits... (none of which I have discovered so far) I just wish they'd made it another option, not simply replaced the old system entirely for it >_<

The new system is costing LL money.

Since LL has said they're going to sell money on LindeX up to the limit of the Linden Sinks, anything that reduces how much is paid to LL in Lindens actually hurts their bottom line.
I pretty much quit taking snapshots, it's just too annoying now.
How many other people have quit spending L$10 a shot?

I'm no photographer, but I use rapid-fire a lot, too, and now you can't. And EVERYBODY (surely) knows that professional photographers do that. They did the times they used me as a model.

I add my support to this request to make the new snapshot system optional.
I remember it was done with those cartoon chat bubbles, which i instantly turned off as soon as I could and had totally (and thankfully) forgot about them until this new snapshot system reminded me.

I make little action figures of peoples AV's sometimes, and to do so I used to snap a dozen screenshots to disc so if they were called away or craashed I could continue my work inimpeeded... Now I have to put paint shop pro into capture mode and pray the increasingly buggy camera rotate dosent send my view hurtling around in circles. And the frozen full screen effect is just annoying to me personally. My vote is definitly for a return to the old camera system. =(

I agree, I'd like to have a way to use the simple old snapshot system.

Relating this new "feature" to a manual camera is an insult. While it takes time more time to set up, you still are able to have rapid fire so you don't have to stop and tweak it between shots.
Please give us back the automatic feature!

I agree that this is not an enhancement at all for many of us. So giving the option of the old system or the new system seems like a good way to restore peace to the masses. Personally, I like the spontaneous point and click, and this freeze frame system is not only confusing but it plain old gets in the way. And now I can't see what's going on while I'm fiddling with the photos and trying to figure everything out.
So yes, count me as a vote for restoring the option to use the old system as well as the new. Personally, I'd be much more willing to take snapshots and pay more Lindens into the game. That must mean something, right?

Wow - I'm amazed at all the negative feedback about the new system. I thought it sucked too when I first started using it.
However, after taking about 20 shots with it, I love it now. My biggest peeve about the last system was, darn, I got the perfect moment in time, except I has wished the camera angle was slightly different. Now I can take that same moment in time and completely change the camera angle and zoom. I love it!
The ability to choose where to goes to (upload or save to disk), resolution and quality settings make it even better.
Thank you LL for a wonderful new snapshot system!!!

Say you want to catch the bling on an object when it is JUST SO. With the old system, you could take the photos as fast as you could judge the time - literally more tahn one a second! Now.... hit snapshot, wait for the ui to pop up, then the frame, then the flash, the the de-rez of the screen, then the little flicker. Darn, missed, Discard that window with a click, and try again, going through ALL of the above every single damned timeCome on guys, at least give us a button that refreshes the world if you are going to freeze it. I had hoped that the Update button may be that when I saw it, but nope, that is just to apply the current settings to the frozen scene you have. So, you have my deepest respect if you can hit the perfect moment every time, because photographing my stock (jewelry) is really starting to annoy me now

I like the new system for it's power, but the old system -- or it's evil 1.11 UI twin -- should be _default _ with an option to the more complex Snapshot system. This stinks of a pet project and I like it a lot for advanced stuff but it's too complex for quick stuff and the technically disinclined.

I would like to have the old system be the default, but I would like to add one feature to the old system, I want it to remember the last five email addresses we used so we can pick from them instead of having to retype them.
