So when is the unreadable text going to be fixed?

I guess, in all of the excitement, I missed the official announcement of when the blurry UI text will be fixed. Does anyone know?

Here's my prediction: never. A lot of people use the smokey background for the chat text, which keeps the problem from being visible.

The programmer that changed it won't just use a simple, thin as possible outlineon the text that the user can determine the color of, like we set the color of the text now. He thinks there has to be a shadow added to the text, not just an outline, and that the the program has to decide the colors of the outlining, rather than the user.

The text display method may change, but the system chosen will be too fancy and complex and won't work - the new method will look different than the current method but still won't work well.

Going back to the old system would be an admission of failure, so that won't happen.

Here's an example of the blurry text:

This is a pretty sorry piece of interface design.

It looks to me like they may have changed the look of the chat fadeout too. Although it might just be the effect of seeing the blurry blob fade away and not an additional change, it looks to me like fade may have an an additional aspect rather than just making the text and outline reduce in opacity and luminance, like maybe it's spreading out. I'm not sure if this is real or an optical illusion.

I guess the users of the "new internet" will just have to get used to it or maybe take a lot of motion sickness pills.

I can understand the need for a dark outline so that light text shows up properly on light backgrounds, but all they need is a thin, sharp outline, not a blurry mess that makes me wonder if my eyes are working right.

It's pretty pathetic.

I've been thinking about text legibilty as a sign designer for 17 years now.

This is sad.
