I have a cleint who has granted me permission to edit her objects. I need to be able to do this to help her to set up her house, do landscaping, and do other work for her. Among other things, she accidentally dragged a texture to the floor and the wall of her new home, changing the texture that was there, and she has no clue how to fix it herself. (She's only been in SL a short time.)
It used to be that if someone granted you permission to edit their stuff, you could do it.
Now, it's almost impossible to select a linked group of objects belonging to someone else. It takes several attempts to even select it. At that point, maybe you can move the whole assembly. But if you attempt to do anything else, like selecting the texture on one surface to edit that texture, you lose focus and the entire linkset de-selects.
In some cases, unlinking allows you to edit individual prims. But that is not an option with a scripted, complex linkset, such as part of a home with scripted windows.
I turned in a bug report in-world. Hope they fix it soon...

You might be unique but every Live Help call i've recieved on this is due to
Tools Menu -> Select only My Objects
Deselect that and your selection and edit focus problems go away. Btw this feature is saving across client login sessions now so you might not realize its still on.

Yes, that worked! I usually have "Select only my objects" checked, as a precaution to prevent accidentally selecting and moving someone's home while landscaping around it. I guess the real 'bug' here was that I was able to seiect the linkset AT ALL, with that still checked!
De-selecting "Select only my objects" and "Select only movable objects" did the trick, and I was able to fix the texturing problems in her home. Thank you!
