I have been on SL for a relatively short time but am well and truly hooked... (so what else is new...?)...

When I first joined... I was amazed by the environments and the people...the incredible size and scope of experiences...

I made a lot of friends and generally immersed myself in the experience...

I developed an avatar based on an Archangelic theme.... I was really happy with this but a little puzzled by some people's reactions...

They commented on the detail in my armour and wings - Bare Rose Archangel.. (I couldn't see detail)... they commented on my skin and hair... (I couldn't see any off this).

Then someone sent me a snap of me.... and I didn't recognise me... I was a swan... all the detail...wow....

I realised that I had been missing out on so much...

I tried tinkering with the graphic related preferences... no luck....

...and then a miracle happened.... FirstLook with Windlight...!!!! Suddenly all my friends looked different... so gorgeous.....!!! and I could see the detail in myself ...WOW...!!!!!

I could finally see.....!!!!

...and now in the new version of the viewer... :( WindLight has gone... and I have lost all the detail again... my life is miserable.... :(

What can I do?

Please. please help...!!!!!!!

Thanks...

It would help a lot if you could take a snapshot of yourself and save it to disk, then have a friend take a snapshot of you as well (File menu / Save Texture As to save that to disk) and then upload both to a public image host (http://imageshack.us is one) and then post the links here on the forum.

If that didn't make any sense, take a snapshot of yourself, and have a friend take one of you and drop both snapshots on me in-world and I'll get them uploaded somewhere :).

Hi Kitty...

Thanks for taking the time to respond...

I have loaded two images as you suggested...

One with the new (latest) SL viewer... and one with the FirstLook viewere with WindLight...

The one with the new viewer:

http://imgcash1.imageshack.us/Himg505/scaled.php?server=505&filename=snapshotnewviewer160620oc7.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=480

The one with FisrtLook / Windlight:

http://imgcash3.imageshack.us/Himg129/scaled.php?server=129&filename=snapshotfirstlookwithwinp3.jpg&xsize=640&ysize=480

You can see the detail in the Archangel armour (as well as the clouds) in the Windlight snapshot.. Whereas in the other one the Avatar clothes are flat grey...

Hope this helps...

Thanks so much once again..!!!

Thanks for taking the time to post those up :).

Were they both pictures you already had? Or did you just take them fresh? The current First Look doesn't have WindLight in it anymore, just voice now instead.

Did you ever try the beta grid? Did you run into the same problem as the main viewer on the main grid?

Do you have an older video card? The water looks like you either don't have "Ripple Water" turned on, or you have a video card that doesn't support shaders. (In Help / About Second Life, you can find your video card listed there if you don't know)

One option might be to simply start the main viewer with fresh settings (First Look uses its own which are separate from the main viewer).
On Windows it's C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\SecondLife\user_settings (change UserName to your Windows username - you may have to turn on showing Hidden Folders in order to navigate to it)
On a Mac it's Library/Application Support/Second Life/user_settings (Thanks to Francesca for that :))

Delete the settings.xml in that folder (don't just search for that find and delete any that pop up, that would be a bad thing :)) and that folder only when SL is closed and then just open the main viewer again and give it a try.

Sorry for all the extra questions and not having a definite solution :(.

They were taken yesterday using the FirstLook viewer with WindLight... It still works but is extremely unstable... It crashed as soon as the photo was taken...

Yes... I use the Beta Grid regularly and have always had the same problem there... even with the most recent (ADITI) viewer.

If it happens on the beta grid, it's unlikely that it's just a setting that's set wrong :(.

There are two that can cause some problems on ATI cards most noticably.
Edit / Graphics Details -> uncheck Avatar Vertex Program if it's checked
Edit / Adv Graphics -> uncheck Enable OpenGL VBO

You can turn them back on if that didn't make any kind of difference. Another thing to try is to switch from "Local lighting" to "Sun and moon only" (or the other way around) and see if that makes any difference.

It seems that's a problem with your specific video card. Have a look at: /111/12/168194/1.html
As for switching to a non-official driver set, the "Technical Issues" forum might be a better place to ask for information about that, or you could always try and leave Amy an IM in-world since it sounds like she has/had similar problems.

It wouldn't if you get the same thing on the beta grid :(. It was in the unlikely event that you had a setting gone wrong.

If you don't want to try the different driver set that Amy talked about, or if it didn't do any good, then it might be a good idea to bug report it on https://jira.secondlife.com/ as well and attach the two pictures there and keep your fingers crossed that any of the Linden devs takes an interest :).

FirstLook and the standard clients are two different clients, so settings made in one, will not be identical in the other. Check your settings in preferences.
