You've managed to come up with a client that hard-locks a Mach kernel running on a dual core machine with 4 gigs of Ram. All you need to do is call it "stoned.app" and disguise it as a pdf.

It also runs fine on a P4 dual core 3.0, 1.5 gig DDR2 RAM with a gForce 8600GT 256 onboard.
Do the obvious......check your drivers, stop background programs, defrag HD, etc etc.

Hmm works for me only got black textures when running 2 or 3 clients at once if I changed avatar textures using the second monitor with too many windows of U-tube and Ebay open at once, and this is from the opposite side of the planet

Sounds like the both of you need to double check drivers and then do a clean install of the client, uninstall it, delete the user folders etc for SL and then reinstall.
I am running an older AMD 3800 2.ghz with only a gig of ram and an 7900 Nvidia card and I don't have any problems. Before I bought the 7900 back in January I was running it with the built in 6200 and was still able to run two clients at the same time. Definitely had low fps doing it, but it was stable.
