"console" window on client startup

Hello everybody.
I'm observing a weird behavior of the SL client ever since I updated to 1.16.0.6 (but now it happens on a freshly reinstalled 1.16.0.5 too): when I launch the client, a small text window opens (like the Windows prompt window) and start listing a lot of lines of gibberish text, with many INFO: and WARNING: about things I don't understand, I gather components and startup/status messages of the client software. After that, the client seems to work fine, with no visible glitches or bugs in the ten minutes I warily tested (didn't want to lose the entire inventory, my limbs, or the like).
What I'm wondering is, why I get this console-looking window now, considering I haven't installed anything new or changed settings in the OS? Is there anything wrong with video drivers or something like that? Is it an error someone else is getting?
And above all, it's safe to use the client in this situation, or should I wait for 1.17 and hope it solves this misterious problem?

(system: Windows XP, Athlon64 3200, 1gb RAM, ATI RadeonX850 XT 256MB RAM, client 1.16.0.6/1.16.0.5)

Do you have a client menu in the SL viewer (if not press CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D)? There should be an option Console in there which is toggled on, and you should toggle it off

Yes, I have Client and Server menus always on, cause I need their functions every now and then...
Any idea on how that could have turned on by itself? A release modification that then remained in the config files..?

A borked install/start/crash that caused the viewer to think you'd never logged in before.
I've had it happen on at least one occation and then I have to go through the god damn them to the infernels of Hell blue boxes that go "this is money, you spend it to get shiney things," "this is a map, look, it tells you where you are."

Actually MAtthew Dowd was right, the menu option Client > Console Window was checked, obviously causing that window to come up at client startup. Unchecked, and problem solved. How that has switched on though is beyond me...
Thank you very much all for your help!
