Insualting!

The new paid membership feature is extremaly insautling and embaressing to free acount users... The idea of also being able to close land off to free acounts is extreamly eltie-ist and discriminitory....

Just because the feature CAN be used, does not necessarily mean it WILL be used. Myself and many others have no intentions to do such a thing. And why would most (heck, ANY) businesses deprive themselves of possible future clients by denying some of the population the opportunity to explore?

Frankly, I think people that ban Free Accounts from their land without a really good reason.... probably doesn't deserve any visitors as it is.

Adding on to this..... its completly unfair that acounts that cant own land are treated like second class citizens as is.... But not your giving people the ability to wash their hands at new players... and so on is a bit ridculious and again discrimnation between players like they are second class.... even as a paying member i started out on a free acount... and i certaintly wouldnt have gone to paying acount after being insaulted and trested as second class as you plan to treat them..... you people really are begginign to get on my nerves..;

I'd sure like to know who "you people" are. It's difficult to take people protesting discrimination seriously when they talk about "you people."

I'm also clueless about why being known as an unverified account would be embarrassing. Personally, I'm on a basic account. So far noone has ever treated me poorly based on my account status. If they did, I would just assume they were a jerk and ignore them.

Linden Lab may eventually add the ability to restrict land based on account status. Or, they may drag their feet as they so often do. Regardless, land owners can already keep people out by banning and restricting to group-only access. Some people may act like assholes IF they get the ability, most will probably not worry about it.

Before getting all excited about something that may happen, consider that the kind of person who would judge you on your account status, rez date, gender, size (get my drift?) isn't someone worth knowing anyway.

Keep in mind all someone has to do to go from "no payment info on file" to "payment info on file-used" is buy some lindens once. You don't even have to stop being a basic account.

I hope that we don't see discrimination against free accounts because I am never going to get a premium account. Why? Because my SL/RL husband has a premium account and with the tier discount system makes it no sense for us both to be premium. Maybe there should be a new "family" account type for people whose SL partners have premium accounts.

Well, it doesn't affect me since I'm verified, but even if not... there's no way in hell I'd spend money on the Lindex. I'd quit SL first and go elsewhere.

I read until you were griping about free accounts. There is no prejudice against free accounts.

It is possible right now -- and has been for at least a year, probably closer to the game's entire history -- to close off land to certain avatars based on things like the avatar's name, age, height, or whether it has attachments that are running scripts. I don't know of any cases where it was ever actually done.

There are three reasons I can think of that a business owner might run a customer-ejection script to ban Basic account players from his store:

He wants to keep griefers out. He'd be smarter to specifically target throwaway accounts with his script -- something like Basic accounts less than 5 days old (even those [i]with[/i] CC info). A Basic account that's been around, say, eight months is far more likely to be a customer than a griefer, and booting him will hurt sales.

He is an elitist and dislikes free players. People who hold this attitude strongly enough to act on it in a hostile fashion are too rare to be worth worrying about.

He sells mature merchandise and wants to make a good-faith effort not to sell to minors to protect himself from potential legal action. Individual players do need to do this now that LL has weakened their own verification. Discriminating based on CC info is the best and only tool that players have available for this. And it has proven to be good enough in the eyes of the law in Real Life (though no one is claiming it is 100% accurate at verifying age).
