I used to check the leaderboard in game every day. I left a message in the Hotline but nothing was answered. I know the leaderboard in game was taken away in the 1.7 update but I feel this was a fun feature for normal residents to have. The website has a top 10 leaderboard but pretty much 99.999% of the SL population are not on the top 10. The in game leaderboard showed you where you are in comparison to the Top 10. It's always nice to know you're number #125 or what not at a certain category. So could we please get this Leaderboard in the game back?

I agree, I'd like to see this come back to the client, or at least the function added to the leaderboard area on the website.
I was just getting to the point where I could actually read some of my scores and they killed it. Booo...

Still missing this feature in game... can someone bring it back in the next update?

Leaderboard Change
10-31-2005 11:09
I agree! Version 1.7 seems to be all about taking away from the players. Why drop the leaderboard? Why end the rating bonus? Why punish today's players for the abuses of other players. I love SL, and I think it's the best thing out there, which is why I continue to play despite the frequent "improvements," patches, and updates. But don't take away some of the best, most fun aspects of the game!

The rating bonus was taken out to stabilize the economy and remove a money source. This reduces the amount of money going into the economy, but the same rate is taken out. Less L$ in circulation means the value of the linden goes back up. In about two weeks time, I watched the value of the linden go up significantly. I was selling L$15,000, and at the start it was $44.74. Two weeks later it was $54.75. That's quite a bit.
I also forgot to mention, they did not take the leaderboard out completely. It's gone from the SL client, but it is still viewable from the webpage.

I agree Rei, I am glad to see the removal of the ratings bonus as a mechanism to make the L$ more valuable. And while it's true that the Leaderboard is available on the website, it only shows the top 10 people of any category. Some of us that aren't in the top 10 would like to see our position versus other residents. When the Leaderboard was available in the client, you could do that (assuming you could read all the digits). Now we don't have access to this ranking. It's no big deal really, but it was a nice touch for those of us that are statistics freaks.

Yup, i'm a statistic freak I'm sure there are a lot of people out there who like lookin at stats and numbers etc... They sure took it out easily, I don't see why they can't put it back in just as easily... It was fun to check daily and think to yourself "Oh, I just jumped blah blah spots in blah ranking"... Makes you feel like what you do in SL has some sort of importance and not just the Top 10 people in each category.

I am glad they removed it, when you pop up on the leader boards, in top ten this is one of major problems:
top 10 owned land: IMS asking if you will give/sell/know anyone that can get them land etc
top 10 net worth: can i borrow/have/buy/sell money from you? even more ims received than from owning land.. and then when you say no they say.. how come you have XXXXX and then they think your a greedy fool.
I hate the leader boards, even though i did enjoy looking at them i dont think its worth the trade off, no privacy.
in short : never bring them back!

I for one liked and would like to see the leaderboard back or better enabled as it was in the client here on the forum.

I have been in the top 10 in many catagories for a long time now and have never been griefed for that alone. Are you referring to being griefed in the forums or in Second Life? There is is huge difference.

I have been in and out of many of the top 10 listings in my nearly 3 years of SL, and I can tell you, I have been griefed every time. People make a LOT of assumptions from the leaderboards without any facts.

I too have been in the leaderboards under land owned and in the top 10 in the last 6 months and have never been griefed. I find it only allowed people to read more about me and my business. It was a great advertising tool. I prefer having them and am sorry to see them go.

One of the simplest, most fundamentally lacking features of the Leaderboard was that there was no way to opt-out if you so choosed. It displayed stats without greater context, which is like water without a glass. Another reason against Leaderboards is, for some, it's perceived as being too much like a "game", with the whole current pool of SL as a platform. The Leaderboard by itself is not inherently problematic, but its previous prominence put too much weight on those stats, in addition to there not currently being a Ratings system. As such, those stats are stale. I do believe that such an option should be provided for Residents who want to participate, so like future modular combat systems, setting up a Resident-run Leaderboard system might be the way to go. There'd have to be some additional interfacing to reveal your wealth to others, but at least you would have a choice, and feel empowered and confident in making that decision.

All of this time i thought the reason why the leaderboard was dropped wasn't beacuse of the non-mobility of the top 10 or the lack of an opt-in or opt-out option, I though it was because the Lindens have two very important changes going on to the rewards that were associated with the leaderboard.
1. Being the changes in the rating system (don't know what's going on there)
2. The changes in the traffic system
That clearly takes away about half of what the leaderboard was in my estimation. I never thought that the leaderboard (as in the top 10) was a true form of growth, it was the "Top 10 Changes this week" that was more important to me. I would like to see, rather than the return of the leaderboard, something that implemented "The Top 10 Changes of This week in these following areas" something simillar to how the stock exchange works.

I had a lousy score anyway, so I'm glad it's gone.
