All that work and for what? Who in their right mind is going to slog through 100 disorganized un-categorized listings?

It's just going to make their eyes bleed. We need more categories.

Like what kinda categories?

Personally i think its kinda balanced right at 9 categories, for shopping there is 2, shopping and new products, if you get many more you've got to remember that will it be worth spending money putting an ad in each category, then also if people list in many categories and not other searching gets harder by keyword and you might miss what you want, but if they have a good ad and are listed in shopping or new products its quite easy to eliminate the rest of the ads with just 2 searches.

My biggest gripe is that products are listed (or were listed, not sure if they fixed it) alphabeticly. I'd much rather them be listed by date added, newest being on top and oldest on bottom.

Difficult one there, some it would be an advantage to be alphabetical, say a store who is going to renew every two weeks would want to keep a consistant placing and be easy to find, then again a new product im not so sure, would a store just have a single ad they kept updating or many ads, if it was single then again they would want to be consistant.

Perhaps the price box wont be as popular and they could replace that with the date of the ad and add the sort buttons at the top ie sort ascending/descending alphabetically or by date

I was playing around with the Classifieds today.

I can see where some of the very specific categories, such as Land Rental, Employment or Wanted - could be somewhat useful.

But as the listings in a category grow to larger than a page... ugh. The Shopping category is no better than using Find, IMHO.

Agree... I like checking new schtuff out, and while dates are listed, you can't sort by them. :( Makes it hard for me to keep up with what's really the LATEST unless I go clickety click-click.

I quickly think of paper newspapers and how things are date-specific.

Can't there be an option to just sort it? Probably a little late since it's updating...right now...but why not have a drop-down to choose how you sort the list? Really the classifieds needs to be taken to a high level, newest item isn't good enough, as somone will just keep removing their item and re-adding it or something.
Alphabetical is no-good because you just start your entry with 'a' or a number or something; "1 cabbage for sale!" "a banana!"

Really what it needs is some kind of relevance searching since classifieds will likely become numerous VERY fast, there's a lot of stuff to buy out there!

So if I searched for "beans" it would return things containing "beans" in their title/description, but also "beansprouts" as a less relevant item. It could then sort by popularity, if you're sending up a new item then it will have a counter with it to say how many times someone has bought it, it would then get traffic from people looking at new items and hopefully rise in popularity to better appear on searches.

So, really, classifieds is just a more expensive find directory?

I completely agree with this. :)
