No post on the blog, nothing on the forums, just a vague statement that this optional update will improve stability and performance... (there's a footnote about pigs flying, but that's all)
What is this update about? and why should I install it?
Even the INSTALLER doesn't have information on what's different between 1.17.3.0 and 1.17.3.1.
Edit: okay, it looks like they've finally gotten around to posting info about it... so here goes:
------------------------------- Optional Viewer 1.17.3(1) Available Monday, July 9th, 2007 at 5:41 PM PDT by: Joshua Linden
We’ve posted a very minor viewer update to Second Life 1.17.3 which addresses a viewer crash on startup for certain classes of older hardware. If you’ve been running with 1.17.3, there’s no need to update - there are no functional changes. ------------------------------

The last viewer mistakingly had SSE-2 code in it, which would cause a crash on start-up on processors that don't support it ( https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1610 and https://lists.secondlife.com/pipermail/sldev/2007-July/003094.html). If 1.17.3 didn't crash on start-up, there's no point in getting the new one.

It might be stable - but this updates causes my frame rate to go from 25-30 average to about 5 or 10 - it sucks!
