I thought I read this error was fixed.
----- Edit ----------------

It seems like it just took so long to load the texture that I had time to run all around the roof, fall through and off it, make this post, go back to SL, and then finally the roof appeared.

How much memory does your video card have?

In some lunatic moment of delinquency, I was hoping the roofs would be gone for awhile. Just awhile. Or switches to turn them on and off.

How much memory does your video card have?
256 megs of video ram, 1 gig main RAM, on this machine, also 256 megs video mem on the other computer.

It took at least 30 minutes for the roof textures to load, after the last post, maybe 45 minutes

The roof can be stood on, Torley, although the supporting beams can be fallen through. It just looks like you are standing on air, till you reach the visible supporting beam, then, if you are moving slowly enough, you can go through the phantom support and between the gap between the invisible roof pieces.

It took me a long time to figure out that on some of the buildings the roof is solid on one side and phantom on the other. Now if only I could remember which.

Also the windows are phantom but who wants to have to aim instead of just flying off?

ahh this may be linked here, i have a card with the same amount of ram and im sure that textures load alot faster when i set it to the 128Mb setting in prefs, not sure if you want to try that and bug report it if you see the same.

Open your prefrences and click ok, that should reset the draw distance on bump to 1 (if you had it set as zero).

Didn't have the draw bump distance at zero.

The updates that have occurred since my initial post - or something else I have no way to know about - seems to have fixed it. One the problems they had along the way was with alpha textures not working right, and apparently another problem with textures not loading.

The video cards have worked fine so far (prior to this) set at 256 megs.

So it's working now so far as displaying the roofs.

However, there is a quite noticeable drop in the ground level for one of the sims that is not present at the corresponding location the real grid.

Plus, there are user created objects in an area with a autoreturn time of zero that is set to no build. That shouldn't be, should it?

Can you report a bug about those user-created objects?
10-16-2005 11:58
SuzanneC, can you please use the Bug Report tool in-world to email us the location of those objects? We'd like to check them out and see what's up Thanks!

Hi Karen, I think my comment about the objects that shouldn't be is based on a confusion I experience from time to time when confronted with the use of ZERO to mean NEVER which is what the autoreturn time of zero means - it doesn't mean autoreturn other's objects after zero seconds it means never autoreturn them. So I don't think there's really anything to report, bug wise.

The objects are physics enabled. so what happened would be that someone created them somewhere else and edited them into their current location or more likely used pushobject or if they are really determined sorts they could have rammed their avatar into the cubes to move them from build allowed area nearby to the no-build area.

So bug-wise it was a false alarm.
