Hmm..
I am trying 1.7
Here's what I have observed...
My frame rate hovers around 13 FPS... in Cordova, and some other places i have been..never exceeding the 15 FPS mark so..
"
In 1.7, the simulator now attempts to run at a fixed frame rate
(45 frames per second)"
hmm... may be not yet for my client.

Then I tried to run a very simple application in the Cordova sandbox.. I clicked on a prim that is supposed to rezz a spinning object, and I got a server/sim? going down message...
Did this twice in succession, and got the same results...

There are two seperate frame rates involved. The one mentioned in the release notes is SimFPS, or the frames per second that the server runs at. Your client frames per second is a totally different issue and may not be any where near 45 fps in normal circumstances on depending on hardware and preferences.

If you could email the script or scripts that caused the problem along with any instructions on how to reproduce it to bugs@lindenlab.com that would be awesome and help us track it down faster.

Hi Kelly,
thanks for the fast response. I am using the same machine with the SL client configured exactly the same way as the latest 1.6 version. I understand the server frame rate and its importance as you explained it clearly. However, do you think it is fair for a user to expect better frame rates at the client side with 1.7? I think perhaps I was expecting a bit too much... like firing my 1.7, setting up the configs in the same manner i did for my 1.6 version... and expecting to see a just noticeable difference.

Exactly why this is a preview of 1.7. AND, if you are averaging 14 FPS that is pretty dang good IMO. As for the sim crashing, again, this is a preview. It's a good thing the sim crashed. Report it so the bug can be fixed!

Have to say also this is very early in the preview, things will get tweaked, and believe me the sims arent nearly going down as much as they did on the first public build, where changing your group would crash a sim.

As for framerate and laggyness goes in preview its hard to say because the sims are running on old hardware. Im not sure this version will have much of a framerate improvement, but from what i've heard kelly explain you'll see the improvement when it goes live and your in busier sims with lots of scripts and many agents.

I guess I'm too lucky. In the main grid, with my low settings, I have an average of 10-15 FPS, and I'm usually happy with that.

I've just managed to be online for 4 hours at the 1.7 Preview Grid. Not a single crash, and mind you, I was tweaking scripts and testing them in the busiest areas. My FPS was hovering around 30 (sometimes 40!!!) when flying through the sandboxes. At my "new temporary home" it was even more impressive (it's not an empty sim, although it has not so many objects around - yet). FPS around 30 unless I turned the video stream on, where it dropped to 15 - very, very acceptable, and the video stream was smoothless.

I was so impressed that I even went up on my Preferences a bit - longer drawing distances, anisotropic filtering, shadows, and all those nice thingies. Well, as expected, the FPS halved, but now I have a much better viewing environment, and the same frame rate as in the main grid with the low settings!

What can I say? Excellent work! Of course, I know that things will be quite different in the "real world", but in my case, I'm almost sorry to see these super-high frame rates to disappear... lol... perhaps you could leave the Preview grid running forever, I'd start hosting events there :-)
