I'm so fed up with all the whining about 1.6

If you never did an upgrade of SW/HW on Enterprise Level why don't you simply *** the *** up.

The Lindens did a good job and i'm sure nobody suffers more under the malfunctions than they do.

If I may: It's highly appropriate to complain about things that aren't working for you. However, of the myriad of ways one can go about complaining, there is - in this case - only one way that has value. The rest, well, you're wasting your time and the Linden's.

The valuable way is to go outside for a moment and enjoy the fresh air. Calm down. Get your wits about you.
Then, come back, log in if you've not already, and submit a clear bug report. Include details on how to reproduce the bug. Note where you were (sim, location) what you were doing, and if it involved an object, you might consider leaving one there for a Linden to try.
Compare the unexpected, buggy behavior to the behavior you expected in that report. This helps the Lindens figure out why you consider it a bug. Yes, most of the time this is obvious. Do it anyway, since there will be times your expectations (which are important in this process) aren't what the Lindens had in mind.
Check your report for spelling, grammar and if nothing else, clarity. A mass of undecipherable gibberish isn't a help, and - sorry, folks - 133+5P33k isn't the universal language of the coder.

You bet the Lindens want to deliver software to you that works well, doesn't crash, and delivers the cool features we all want for our Second Life. The law of averages and that odd, loosely interpreted Second Law of Thermodynamics holds true here, though. Things are going to break, they aren't going to function exactly as intended... and in a system as complex as this one is, it's going to happen often.

Personally, I'm impressed with what the Lindens delivered with 1.6, even though several of the bugs have impacted me and my SL business negatively. I trust that the upcoming patches will handle these problems. It went OK with 1.5, it will with 1.6. I just have to outwait this rough patch. :)

People say that the Lindens pay attention to the boards, so I think it's viable. It's great if the new version works fine for you. For many of us it doesn't, and no amount of getting your wits about you is going to change the fact that you can no longer do the things you liked doing before.

I think those of you who think we're whiners need to get in world and play a bit more. Experience what we're experiencing. Listen to the people instead of disregarding them.

If we were to suffer real losses i'd complain as well. But this is a major upgrade, so please give the Lindens a little time and the world will be a cozy place again.

Reminds me of the family stuck in a 40 mile traffic jam with two little kids on the backseat.

BUT YOU PROMISED WE'D BE AT BURGER KING WHEN IT GETS DARK. WAAAIIIIL

Object import/export in 1.7 would mean a lot more time spent in the preview grid. *wink* *nudge* *hint*

I do Enterprise-level SW/HW Upgrades on a routine basis to 24,000 customers. I work in the healthcare industry, which requires 24/7 uptime - lest it will affect patient care.

This forum is titled "Version 1.6 Feature Feedback". If folks are going to bitch, I would assume that this is the place to do it - and LL welcomes the feedback, positive or negative.

That being said, I think a lot of process improvements have been made since the last major release. A month long of preview.... Kudos. Better communication as to downtime & outages then before.... Kudos. Those of us who have been around for other major releases like this (cough 1.5 cough) should know the drill by now:

-For the most part, major issues that effect the whole of the community will be resolved within the next month.

-There will be lots of 'smaller scope' items that will languish unfixed, that will really piss off a vocal minority to no end.

There.... I'm two cents poorer now :D

Nobody is making you read it. This is the 1.6 feedback forum. Don't read it if you don't wanna see whining.

The next time your car breaks down, why don't you take that advice.

Or the next time the mailman mangles a package.

Or the pizza place sends you a tripple-anchovie instead of the plain cheese you asked for.

Or the next time the doctors leave a pair of scissors in yoru colon after an operation.

Or the next time a loved one is killed in a plane crash due to pilot error.

If the lindens suffered under the malfunctions we do, they wouldn't have released the damn thing. They did NOT do a good job in my book: In my book, a "good job" involves, you know... the product WORKING. Many of us are still unable to log in at all or stay logged in if we manage, to say nothing of waves of crippling lag, items being deleted in world, you name it.

Kojima-san has a point. It is not normal social behavior to praise average or less than average output.

"Gee you managed to get us through the mountains, even though you lost one engine and you flew into a fog bank with your radar out. Thank you for such excellent service!"

The whole point of leaving a tip is to encourage the server for providing excellent service. The average person doesn't tip waiter who ONLY brings food and drinks and then you never see them again until you flag them down to get your bill- so what do you expect to find in a feedback forum?

Vacant praise?

I think the fact that we still pay for the service says that we like the service... now let the complaints continue.

I'm getting a little tired of the whining about the whining.

And if someone complains about the whining about the whining about the whining, etc, we could end up in an infinite recursive loop of complaint!

One time I was in a restroom with almost 50 men in lines to use the urinals. As I was about to step up to one, an older gentleman, between 60 and 70, suddenly announces from the back of the line, "If you shake more than 3 times, you're just playing with yourself!"

So really, whining about whining about whining is just playing with yourself. Anything more recursive than that, I'd like to file under the expression "Whining Hat fourty-two," or "W^42."

Fnords.

I dont know... but if you type "exploding head" into google.. there are a disturbing amount of results.

the American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition, defines "masturbatory" as:

mas·tur·ba·to·ry (bunch of non copy/pasteables)
adj.

1. Of or relating to masturbation.
2. Excessively self-indulgent or self-involved: “ [The play's] star... paces around his cell, smoking and snarling in a masturbatory rant” (Sam Whiting).
so yes... basically it is playing with yourself :P

Keep it out of the hotline.
04-05-2005 15:49
The discussion forums is the place to go out and test the waters and see if it's just you or if others are of like mind. But I am getting so impatient with posts to the hotline which require a call to customer service or can be answered (and have been answered) in a discussion forums provided for the specific issue. The worst was during the 1.6 release:

When are you releasing 1.6?
I can't get in sl. Is it down?
You said you were releasing an hour ago but it's not ready yet. (Question: Did this person really think that LL didn't know?)
and on and on followed with:
I can't get in.
Trouble logging in.
I pay $10 a month and this sucks.
And on and on and on.

Geez!
