That is a known bug that's definitely wanted to be fixed. Glad your TPs are faster soon, and hopefully you'll be able to see your avatar along with them too. ![]() _____________________

Teleports crossing sims are indeed much faster, I thank LL for that.
However, one small issue is that there's no pre-caching going on at all now. So I tend to end up arriving in the middle of the air, with nothing rezzed around me. ![]() |

The only problem I've noticed with teleporting is that, when I tp to the ground from a high altitude using a landmark, I can't land... I have to sit on something and then get up. No idea what's causing that.

I have had one issue, it is much faster, but on a few occaisions mebbe 4-5 times now when I have tleported, upon arrival at the new destination, I have received an additional request to teleport that leaves me 2 choices; 1 wait till the false request is processsed resulting in me standing where I should be and ready to go, but it takes about 5 minutes for the request to pass, or; 2 cancel the second request resulting in me standing there, but unable to move or teleport untill a relog. I will also comment that it does take away a lot of emmersion and fun from the game when you arrive at a new location with nothing there then grey with white grids for a while, then finally after some time you see the actual objects

well i love the teleport speeds but for me if i am sitting one place and teleport to another if i forget to "stand up" before teleporting then i have to relog at new destination as i am stuck in the previous stance where as before it would knock you out of the sitting or what not you were doing.... hope that makes sense lol

Yes Torley, but...
03-24-2006 13:57
Yes, yes, yes... much faster Torley, yes we noticed... bla bla bla...
Another wonderful feature I've noticed is that it takes at least 20 minutes longer for things to rez than it did before this big wonderful upgrade! WOW! That really makes the few seconds saved teleporting worthwhile! Another great feature is that all these expensive and irreplaceable items I bought no longer appear in my inventory. I hardly miss them at all! Nor do I miss those clothes that I once loved that are now trashed an turned into generic clothing. And all the scripted items that no longer work - that was a big improvement! I didn't like having fun on my swingset anyway. Logging in looking like some short hobbit-freak out of a Frank Zappa nightmare to everybody else while being invisible to yourself is another wonderful feature that you guys must have worked hard at. And the random crashes and reboots really keep me on my toes and allow me to spend a lot more quality time in RL. And the new trick with textures sure saves me a lot of work building things - I can now spend the time I used to waste building things by running away from my Sim with a 2-minute rebnoot warning on my azz. Funzo! IMs are no longer boring now that they either don't get there or totally crash the program. There's just SO MANY NEW "FEATURES" that it's hard to remember them all - and more and more keep popping up at the MOST unexpected times! Sure is an exciting time to be in SL, I'll tell ya fer sure! Never know what's going to happen next! (sarcasm mode off) Yeah Torley - I noticed that teleporting does take a few seconds less. I'll try to be excited about it later though. |

I guess thats good, so what is LL going to do about all the other errors, names not appearing over the avatar, buildings that were perfect in 1.8 now have huge cracks and walls are falling off in 1.9.... What did 1.9.0(17) do to fix these? |

Honestly?
No, I hadn't noticed, because it is now taking so much longer for my avatar and the world around her to rez. A black screen of being in-teleport, or a grey screen of an unrecognizable or completely missing and therefore unavigable destination? What's the difference? Meh. I'd just as soon have the black screen back, if it meant my destination and my avatar showed up promptly once I did get there. I do tend to wear a lot of attachments, all the time. A furry avatar that includes at least half a dozen individual prim linksets; prim hair; a hug attachment; a kiss attachment; scripted multi-position wings. And yes, the actual time spent in-transit when I TP, now that you mention it, is shorter. But it doesn't matter, if I can't see my destination. I went to a large retail outlet earlier today. One I was familiar enough with that I didn't have to wait for everything to rez to get to where I wanted to go in the store. I couldn't see anything, not even the base terrain, when I arrived! So I just went into mouselook and blindly headed up the hill that I could see a few prims on, and into where the store should be, as bracketed by a few prims that had already rezzed. In the time it took me to walk well over 100 Meters up a flight of stairs and into the building, 90% or the building and the surrounding terrain was still not visible! I was walking on empty air over half the way there! Fortunately, by the time I got near the department that I was looking for, things had rezzed enough for me to shop. You know, my store sales have gone down since this last pair of updates. I wonder if the slower rez times and invisible avatars are discouraging people from getting out and shopping? _____________________

I would also like to add, when you teleport in a sitting position you have to re-boot. Some teleports fail alltogether. Many friends got the message that the sim was going down and they were being logged out, when in fact, the sim was NOT going down.
Found more cracks in my home. THis was not the case under 1.8. Takes 5-25 minutes to rez things. When Avatars appear they are small before they finally rez 10 minutes later. Sometimes the teleport home button locks up. I have filled out a ton of Bug reports, Have seen NOTHING done about them. |

You know, my store sales have gone down since this last pair of updates. I wonder if the slower rez times and invisible avatars are discouraging people from getting out and shopping? I think this is one of the features that's discouraging participation in the whole project, not just shopping. Honestly, I do like the speed of the teleports, but I do NOT care for the speed of the rez. Yes, teleport is FASTER. Conversely, the rez is SLOWER. It doesn't seem to matter if I'm in the middle of a mall with 20 furry avatars, fully clothed, or a naked human with all default textures in the middle of a blank field with one prim and a 128x128 texture. I get there faster, but have to wait much longer to see the location...or...even myself. 1.9 has problems. 1.8 had problems. 1.7 had problems. I'd daresay ALL releases have problems, but as the versions go up, the number of problems should go down. Not up as well. There's an inside joke within my group that says "Q: How many major bugs does SL have? A: Multiply the point version by 100. Q: How many years will it take for LL to fix them? A: Multiply the point version by 100." _____________________

Incidentally, I have now had several times when I remained invisible for an entire session, and was unable to see myself at all until I logged off and back on again.

The texture and AV rezzing problems all come from 1 issue - Your cache gets dumped when you exit SL.. so there's nothing cached to make taht load faster.. If you look at your secondlife.log file, you'll see it even says "clearing cache" near the end of the log out..
So.. my suggestion - bug report it the cache clearing, because that shouldnt be happening.. bug report now, bug report often.. _____________________

Well, have ya? ![]() Attach a LOT of attachments, including scripted ones, and go TPing around the grid. Feel any difference from 1.8 ---> 1.9? ![]() Poor Torley! I think that you really walked into that one, after reading those replies to your initial post. Personnally, I did notice the speed of TP increasing after v1.9 came. Then I noticed that in order to keep the viewer fps to 10 or above, my drawing distance had to be less than 100m. Good bye flying, because at that distance setting and the problems with the texture loading speed, I keep flying into buildings all the time or nothing has time to rezz if I'm flying faster than 9m/s. So I did what I promised a couple of months ago in another thread. I sold all my land, closed my shops, and tiered down to basic. No way I'm wasting my money in this until ALL the bugs are fixed and performance get's back to pre v1.7. I do admire how you keep up a good mood trhu all this. Do you have the same attitude when going to the dentist? ![]() Also, after loggin off SL, I rediscovered RL.... there's no TP, but you can simulate it while driving with your eyes closed. And everything instantly rezzes as soon as you open your eyes again... ![]() _____________________
