What is wrong now? I have tried a few releases of the preview and they all worked fine. The last one that worked properly I think was 1.7.0.29
Now, it only flashes the "loading Second Life" small box in the center of the screen and closes. It does not even last 1 second! I have checked into Windows Task Manager, and it's exactly what is being shown there also. It loads for a fraction of a second and disappears. I have given it full permission in ZoneAlarm... what else could I do? Help!!!

From version .29 they moved the download directory so i would uninstall all previous versions of 1.7 preview and delete any directories like secondlifepreview and secondlifesiva in the program files direcotry if your using a pc, re-download from the web and reinstall, this may also mean you have to remove your zone alarm config and reconfig for the new location.

Thanks for answering Nathan! Actually, I have done all that more than once. Since it refuses to start, I wanted to get the latest version installed in a "clean" way.

I dont think its firewall as whenever i install a new version mine usually asks for permission for access as soon as i hit connect, but you can always test that by disabling your net connection and disabling your firewall, and seeing if things fireup.
You may want to check if the drivers are upto date, there are new nvidias out today 81.85 not sure about ati.

Hello again Nathan!
Yes, ZoneAlarm always ask permission. You're right. But it did'nt even got to that point. SL 1.7.0(49) does not even start to load! Like I said, it only flashes the small box for maybe a second... maybe less. So it does'nt even get into ZoneAlarms legs. I have a feeling something else is the culprit, but what???
New nVidia drivers? Wow! I'll run on their site right away. Who knows?

Well, I just installed the latest 1.7.0 (last release candidate), installed the latest nVidia drivers, still same problem!!!!!!!!
Anyone else has this problem?
SL 1.7 does not even load! I barely see the small windows "loading ..." because it does not even last 1 second on my screen. And nothing else!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Nathan! Yes it does contain an accented character: André Don't tell me... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had that problem with the game There a few years ago. It took them about 3 years to realize that limiting anything to the old US ASCII codes was unrealistic and narrow minded. But they finally fixed it. I REALLY hope SL does'nt do the same mistake! It would no longer be "another world", just "another USA only". (sorry, I'm just a bit pissed off right now at the thought it might be the reason SL 1.7 refuses to start )

No its definately a bug, just didnt get caught by any of the testers as its quite unusual, not sure what will happen monday, but its already been assigned an rt number and forwarded to the right person, im guessing it will go out as an optional update if they dont have a build ready when the grid comes online, as there is a work around and thats create another windows login, which will already have the secondlife icons etc it will run from there

Thank you very much for the information Nathan. It's somewhat of a relief to know it has been signaled as a bug already. Yes, that is what I had to do in order to log into There. But having to logout and log back as another Windows user is a pain, not to mention I then no longer have access to all my regular "goodies" in Windoze. So let's see what happens tomorrow and at least now I know what the cause is. Thanks again Nathan. Good thing you read my posting.

can you imagine how many people are doing this at once? Of course it's not going to load all the way i'm sure there is thousands of people trying to log in all at once, i'm sure if you have patience it will eventually log you in.. And dont be suprised if things rez slowly either.

Hi Jeannie! Maybe too many people were downloading it at the same time. Keep trying. I just downloaded it myself, installed it, and... CANNOT GET INTO THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this 2005 AD or BC?

Frustrated too
10-24-2005 16:49
Today I have gotten on 2 times, and otherwise, even though the status page shows that the grid is online, I have not been able to access. It tells me sometimes that it is down for maintenance. I have reinstalled it twice. From scratch after just downloading the update, so that's a total of 3 times if you count that one original new download. It gets frustrating.

They just posted that there is an issue keeping people from logging in, and that the grid is closed until further notice.

Hi ReMzy!
Yep! Looks like we will have to create ourself a new Windows user if we want to play SL. At least for now, up until they fix it. What a pain!
And I could'nt wait for them to release 1.7! It sounded so promising...
