In the past 72 hours, my estate has been subject to some severely unfortunate circumstances. A newer brand of griefer capable of crashing a tier 5 sim in seconds has been making themselves a guest of my sims and in response I had three choices..

a. Make the estate age verified only.
b. Make the estate group only.
c. Let them keep coming and keep both sims perpetually down.

Because of the open source nature of second life and the lack of payment for any kind of account, Linden Labs has put me in a VERY tight spot with no positive outcome. My business on Second Life is now in jeopardy because they can't get a grip on what they're doing.

I either submit my sims to a flawed method of identification, block out new customers or let my businesses be crippled 24 hours a day.

Come on guys, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. This isn't fair to us and it's the reprecussion of poor choices on your part. PLEASE help us out here!

Indeed. Even hardware bans seem not to work; everyone who's ornery enough to get a hardware ban also seems ornery enough to be able to evade them.

What should be done is what's done on IRC (which Second Life is just a very, very fancy version of)... there's no reason that an estate or sim owner shouldnt be able to ban users by IP address or hostmask--- while at the same time keeping enough privacy intact that they need not actually know what those IP addresses and hostmasks are.

Sure, the ornery will be able to evade them, but that sort of banning can also be very easily scripted and attached to an object, making their continual ousting totally automagical.

Well, lindens? Care to drop that in place? If you need any help with it, I have a ton of experience writing IRC bots. Because thats about as simple as it needs to be. :)
