Lag is at an all time high.
I can not beilieve just how bad it has gotten... and no its not my computer, nor my settings so save it.
I would love to see something drasticly done about it.

Silly Question:
I remember when there was but a few channels for the TV and they discovered an endless amount of wave lengths for more channels... wonder if we could invent Virtual Bandwidth ha ha.
For all the streaming that SL is demanding we will have to soon. But of course that would mean smaller and smaller Packets... not larger packets.
I am wondering if those larger packets are why I keep droping packets in SL.

Well something needs to be done this is the second night I get to miss out on SL because of the Lag.
Can't type to the main chat... can't change cloths... can't dance... can't walk... people poof and crash at the rate of 2 per minute... people not being able to log back in.. when they do log back in are missing cloths and hair.. men look like females.. can't bug report... now isn't this just FUN!!!!?
Strangly enough my FPS is up around 30-40fps.. bandwidth is at 556kbs... ping is a bit high but tolarable... but we all keep locking up and freezing and this is not just 1 sim I had to travel through 5 sims to get here in Extasia to dance and that took me 3 hours to get there.
14 times reloging 10 times cleaning disk dumping caches defraging the system optimiseing the system total shut down and purging the system and rebooting the computer... 22 attempted TPs... ahhh for the Patience of it all.
Good to know my hard erned cash buys me wonderous things here.

Hmm and when I can't get into SL what do i do?
I am in here venting ha ha.

Actually, your current internet connection already does it. Yes, even dial-up I believe.

From Wikipedia:
Baud should not be confused with data rate in "bits per second" (or bytes per second, etc.). Each symbol transmitted can carry one or more bits (for example, 8 bits in 256-QAM modulation) of information. When each symbol is binary it carries just one bit, so baud and bit rate are equal. This is a cheap, simple encoding. However, it's common to make better use of channel bandwidth by encoding multiple bits per symbol. This reduces the time required to send a given quantity of data, and it's exactly how good modems, FDDI and 100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet LANs, and so on, achieve high data rates.

WOW Draco18s...
now if I could have a box next to my computer that will encode and decode so I can have that extra virtual bandwidth.. it would be great.
but now if they are just going to get to sale me something I already own like they did with the channels its a waste.

ha ha ha

...
*blinks*
It's called your modem. All routers and modems (cable, DSL, fiber optic, phone) currently in use already encode and decode the 8, 16, or 32 (more?) bit symbols that traverse the internet.

Ha ha ha well then we are definately talking about 2 different things ..., aren't we?

Virtual= Not real
And definatly not a product already being sold to me.

I was assuming it would be nice to have a device that I could hook to my Computer with a compressing device that I could piggy back VIRTUAL BANDWIDTH on that bandwidth I already have.

Yes I understand how Bit rates are 8..16.. 32 and soon 64..this is not what I was talking about. And I am not assuming to ever know how one would do what I am JOKEING about.

You've confused me, so I'm not sure what you really mean. Apparently I misunderstood initially. Oh well.

I think the subject here is about extreme Packet loss Draco18s.
And the fact I would love to see something done about it.

Has anyone think its caused by the near 10,000 users online?!Many that are AFK I say 50% are sitting in money making devices.

I've been experiencing extremely high packet loss recently. Readouts in the 150% range are not uncommon for me. Which is odd because 100% packet loss usually means a broken connection. Personally I've given up on doing anything more than standing on the spot and building (very slowly when you have 4+ second ping and massive packet loss). It can take anything up to 10 minutes for the contents of a rez-faux box to update while I'm working on a build project.

I don't know, a lot of people say they don't have trouble with packet loss, but since 1.12 mine goes yellow just from turning my camera viewpoint. Nevermind the frustration of typing something and having it appear like 2 minutes later or building something and have the object reshape over and over because the information isn't getting sent.

As for the extreme packet loss. It's even worse now. Now it turns red.

Brent Linden responded to packet loss and my reply.

Packet Loss
This can be caused by a few things: the first, is our World Map. As much as we hate to say it, our map eats bandwidth like its in the finals for a hot dog eating contest. Work is currently underway on making the map not suck up your bandwidth.

I'm sorry Brent, but even the official Linden blog supports us on this - the current release features extreme packet loss.

We tried to hold the weekly LUG meeting last night when the grid came up, the topic of conversation wasn't all the wonderful bug fixes Tofu Linden has worked so hard on, it was the 30-50% packet loss everyone at the meeting experienced - we even moved to another sim only to find it worse! (ppl were running windows client native, windows client with wine & cedega and the Linux native client - consistant extreme packet loss).

Most of us gave up early in the end.
