About a month ago I got a new HP desktop pc with Vista and Nvidia 7300LE. Everything about SL was amazing! I couldn't believe the ripple water! I couldn't believe the light from nearby local lights! And I could bump my draw distance up to 128 and still not feel any lag!And then came the optional 1.14.01. I downloaded and installed it. Began noticing a lot of lag, and objects flickering rainbow colors and also my hud flickering rainbow colors. Then when I would shut down my pc I would get the dreaded blue screen. It got to where I would only shut down my pc every 3 or 4 days... and only restarted it when I got updates. Microsoft sends me friendly reminders to update the drivers on my graphics card but HP says it is incompatible at the moment. So then a friend suggested that I uninstall SL and go back to the last version of it. I have to deal with not having the newer features but all of the flickering has stopped and I no longer get the blue screen. A couple of days ago when I booted up my pc, I got a notice from microsoft stating the reasons for the blue screen. 1st was a big surprise. Incompatibility issue with SL 1.14.01. (Hmmmm - ya think??) and the 2nd was my graphics driver needing that driver update that HP STILL says is incompatible with HP. There was also the suggestion to tone down my settings on my graphics card to best performance. (which sucks but I did it). Ok so no more blue screen... but I sure do miss the new version of SL. I hope there is a fix in the future. By the way the friend that suggested my using the older version? She also has a new HP desktop pc with a Nvidia graphics driver but she has the 6150.

Nvidia Not Vista

I have had issues running a Hp and a Lower graphics card But Nvidia. I updated the driver and all hell broke loose. I would tp out of the Blue I cant sit on anything Graphic go hay wire. I have so many graphic issues it is not funny. It was so bad a Linden had me run all kinds of reports and had me upgrade to 1.14.0.1 and still the same thing. So they are working on it. I get frequent updates from LL. I want to say I am impressed with Teeple Linden He has gone out of his way to work on this. (I am the first to bash LL when they dont do it right) I have to say that I feel that they are working on this. I keep getting post from them on the status of the cure. Thnk you Teeple. and if any LIndens read this they should all take a lession from Teeple.

**update**
Last night after posting, I went ahead and got hold of tech support for HP. They said I could finally upgrade my driver for my graphics card. I upgraded and rebooted and no blue screen. I also installed the 1.14.01 again and so far so good... (knocks on wood). No flickering and no lagging. My old drivers were not compatible with 1.14.01 but my new ones seem to be? I am really hoping this is the fix I needed. Good luck to you Bannock. I really hope everything comes out okay. Keep us posted? I will be sure and come back and post again if something happens. Also, I was mistaken about what version of windows my friend was using. She is on XP sp2. So it wasnt a vista issue at all. _____________________

What really sucks bigtime, so many manufacturers act like Vista's arrival was a great big surprise. It was years in development.. years.... Manufacturers like HP, ATI, nVidia are all high end companies, what the hell were they doing all this time?
Persoanlly Vista lasted less than 2 hours on my PC... all that clicking to confirm you want to do this, and that.. followed by, your soundcard have been disabled because Vista doesn't recognise your headphones.. sending for a solution.. an hour later, solution arrived.. contact your manufacturers and demand a compatible set of headphones.... <Hammered Delete key, vista now off the PC, welcome back useable XP> Anyone want to buy a £90 windsheild ice scrapper.. comes in a handy container and looks like a CD?? _____________________

Another update on my situation
04-13-2007 08:58
Ok... so far I see flickering and have noticed it is only on objects that are set to full bright. The flickering isn't as bad as it was the first time around, but enough to scare me into not shutting down my pc lmao. As for the site where I got the update from? It can be found at http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html and there is a button at the top of the page for downloading drivers. My pc acts just fine outside of SL. It's just the flickering in SL that I am experiencing. Good luck to you on your new pc. I love mine totally except for in SL .

I have a new HP , with windows Vista, &Nvidia 6150LE graphics card. All runs well , except i get laggy and crash. I spent 1 hr on phone with HP Tech support. They had me turnoff fire wall, I dont see where that helped. Said i could remove Vista and put in XP , i would have to go to store and Buy XP. and my soft ware waranty would be void. I was bettr off with old PC . I also cant run Mysql or Sam Broadcaster , i am Internet DJ also.

I'm not sure if this applies to your situation, but I was also having the flickering rainbow colors issues with certain textures and disabling openGL took care of it without any obvious hit elsewhere.

I'm running XP Pro but have found major problems with 1.14.01. The HDD cache loads up in just a few minutes and the only solution is to re-log.
Went back to SL version 1.13 whatever and everything is good again. Was about to give up on SL and go back to World of Warcraft before someone mentioned getting rid of .14. _____________________

I found an easy way to solve this damn flickering issue :
Go into your client menu (debug mode ctrl+alt+D) Choose Rendering > Feature and disable Fog option Tada !! ![]() |
