Losing focus when editing another's objects (with modify rights granted)

Just discovered this last night and I'm positive its due to the last update:

When I try to modify another user's objects when I have modify rights granted to me, I lose focus or otherwise can't select parts of it at all. For example, let's say I'm trying to texture a table that my partner built:
  1. Right click -> Edit causes me to lose focus on the table entirely, but it brings up the Edit menu.
  2. With the Edit menu open, I can usually then Right-click -> Edit again and the table will now be selected.
  3. Selecting Edit Linked Prims in the Edit menu causes me to lose focus every time. There's no way to edit a linked prim in the table set at all now.
  4. Selecting Edit Texture will cause all the textures on all the faces of the prims in the table to be selected, as it should. However, now I cannot click an individual face of a single prim - I lose focus again entirely. I can DESELECT single faces individually, but in a build larger than a few prims, you can see how obnoxiously ridiculous that gets.
My main beef here is that this seriously impedes our workflow, as Makaio does most of the building and I do most of the texturing. This bug is essentially crippling us completely without resorting to really ridiculous workarounds, like selling off the build back and forth to each other as each one needs to work. If this is the kind of thing that doesn't get fixed, I don't see how we can continue to work reliably in SL.

I've spoken with a few people inworld who have had this problem previously, some as far back as May!

Has anyone else experienced this for the first time since the point update?

I think I know what's going on here. You may have "Select only my objects" checked in the Tools menu. I've used this in the past to select a build of mine on someone else's land, and then forgotten I'd left it checked. Later, I found I couldn't look at anything someone else owned, and worse yet, relogging didn't fix it. It took me forever and a half to figure out that it was this option.

If it turns out this was your problem, maybe you should go so far as to bug-report this anyway. I think it'd be necessary to have something on the screen to remind you that you're selecting only your objects, because it's easy to forget and very hard to diagnose. It's a bad enough UI problem to qualify as a bug in my book.

Cory, I have noticed the same problem since the last update and it has been driving me crazy! I hope that Lex is right and this can be worked around by toggling "Select Only My Objects" off ... *keeps fingers crossed until I can get home and give it a try*

I can confirm that Lex is right. I still think it may be different behavior introduced with this last release.

I'm not kidding, I've had this problem as far back as over a year ago. If it was a problem introduced by this update, maybe somehow the update altered the "select only my objects" setting...?

Quick update:

The next morning I logged in and tried the situation out again - still the same problem. A few hours later Kona came by and asked me to demo the problem to him. And, of course, this time......the behavior was gone. I hadn't relogged, hadn't touched the "Select only my objects" checkbox (although good suggestion) - it was just fixed.

Now, I have had some reaaaaaaaaallly strange intermittant problems on my computer - one of which was caused and then solved by a power fluxuation, I live in the boonies and the wires are old, don't ask me - so if all else fails I can chalk it up to that.

I highly encourage anyone who has this problem on a repeatable basis to bug report it, and/or see if you can demo it to any of the bug hunter team.

I have seen some weird behavior with selections in the past few versions... sometimes it seems like I'll click an object, and click and click and click, and only the fifth or sixth click actually selects the damned thing. Sometimes when I click something, what's selected is something way behind it, even though the thing is completely obscured. I haven't seen select-then-unselect stuff though.
