Prims vanishing on linking

I was building last night, got everything set, all selected, and hit the link option from the menu pulldown. Everything selected except the root prim vanished - apparently deleted, it's not in my inventory.

I haven't had a chance to explore this any further, but it was pretty annoying.

It seems that there are several problems with the building tools since the last update, there is a thread about the disappearing prims here (possibly occlusion problem):
