I was in Morris today and I watched a video. This video had a commercial for vodka at the start and then the feature. But, right after the commercial, all three of us that were watching had our browser open up. The link appears to be harmless (this time) but the fact that it happened makes me a bit nervous. Why did it do that? Should I be worried about being sent to a virus page in this manner? Is there a way to prevent it? I dont want a video opening up my browser and sending me somewhere I dont want to be.

This is the link it sent us too...

It's a feature in both quicktime and wm that lets the movie open a webpage.

Viruses could be a problem if there are vulnerabilities in QuickTime.

Talk about snowcrash..

I think that was my video. sorry for that. Videos that are streamed from sites like ifilm.com has advertisements to keep video's free. When it went to play the movie it opened the movie in the webpage too. Sadly this is gonna be a problem for people who want to view movies in sl. A true downside to the feature.

Oh shit.

Does anyone know a way of disabling this/disabling Internet Explorer/preventing IE from connecting to the Internet? A large part of the reason why I've never had any trouble with viruses or spyware is that I've never used Internet Explorer to connect to any website but microsoft.com. If it's possible for arbitrary parts of SecondLife to launch IE and point it at arbitrary websites, I'm going to have to forgo streaming video.

If I had to make a guess, I would say it would launch your default browser, not IE.

I saw that when I played an XML file that had <EMBED> links to quicktime files and a qtnext="" tag pointing to the 2nd video to play. 2nd video tried to open in my browser but it didn't play.
