GL Mem cycling issue correlates to lag and packet loss

Steps to reproduce the bug:
build an empty cube with no textures.
stand inside it.
view statistics for GL Mem and raw mem.

Observed results:
gl mem increases from 262 to 362 over 15 seconds then drops back to 262 in 2 seconds.
this cycle is continuous and correlates to the lag being observed everywhere in world.

Expected results:
stable metrics since there are no visible textures observable to avatar inside the blank cube.
Previous versions of sl did not exhibit this cyclic behavior.

----

Anyone else care to check this to see if it is valid or just my pc?
Pretty bizzare GL behavior.

You sure it's not physics related? The physics engine will have to figure out what to do with you when you're suddenly intersecting a geometry?
