For the past few days my clothing textures keep getting corrupt... mixed with other textures and other weird things.... a rebake usually fixes it but it is getting frustrating. Is anyone else noticing this problem or is it just me?

Clothing Bug Issue
01-10-2009 07:08
My man has had a problem for a while with about half his clothing inventory and its frustrating as hell. When he wears certain articles of clothing either all of his skin or its his arms or hands or feet will suddenly turn black or white.....We've checked his settings against my own and they are the same...I do not have this problem...And no its not his computer because I've logged on to his account and thats how it shows up on mine as well...It has to do with SL....We never had this problem before till about a month ago....Any and all suggestions are welcomed.....His name is ShoGun Rikugun.....

Clothing textures corrupt
01-10-2009 07:12
Ever since I uploaded newest viewer version, my clothing textures are all corrupted save for one or two articles of clothing that do not change the color of my avitar to either all white or all black. This is very annoying because I can no longer wear some of my favorite outfits. Rebaking or relogging does not help at all. This is not an issue with my computer or my graphic settings because it happens to me even if I log on my partners computer too.

Texture fix
01-10-2009 10:18
I saw this on a post and it has worked for me so far
Inworld menu, Advanced (Ctrl+alt+D if it is not on the menu) Then-Rendering-Features Uncheck Palletized Textures (quick way to do all of above is: Ctrl+Alt+F7)
Rebake Textures (Ctrl+Alt+R)
Need to do this each time you log in.
No need to relog, reinstall, clear cache or change gfx card or driver
It worked for me, after about 3 attempts. After that just once at each relog was needed

This is not a bug with the viewer
01-10-2009 12:33
From: Gianna Farina Need to do this each time you log in. Good to know but we shouldn't have to resort to something like this after we log in. A large part of my SL wardrobe has been unwearable for much the same reasons described above and for roughly that same length of time. It seems that masking controls on items have failed so that the texture on a pair of gloves will look like a complete shirt, a pair of linden shoes or socks will go all the way up my legs or a jacket will cover my legs as well as my torso. Other items are just plain white or black as described above. Interestingly, an alt of mine has a number of the same items in his wardrobe and they look fine and dandy on him so it would appear that the issue is linked to the asset server storing inventory for particular accounts. As far as I recall there was an overhaul of the asset server network in early December, which was just before this started happening and I'm pretty pissed that the issue hasn't been fixed. I guess I should have submitted a ticket for this by now but I have heard quite a number of complaints about the issue from other residents so I assumed it was something that the Lindens would be aware of and fix asap. I also recall something similar happening back in my newbie days of August-September 2007. That was temporary, however, because the problem appeared to have been resolved within a few days. NB Perhaps I should be more explicit and say that, despite a number of very tiresome problems I have had with the current viewer, which is undoubtedly the most unstable piece of Linden software I have used to date, my experience with my alt has proven that this particular issue is not related to the viewer.

nVidia Problem ?
01-10-2009 14:06
I saw this post below, but I diden't have any troubles before December and what about all the people on other Grafics cards? I myself have a nVida Card so it may be the case for me, of which I have no clue what I could do to fix other then wait like the post below is saying we will have to do.
(As I understand it, nVidia stopped supporting palletized textures after 175, so this isn't actually an SL bug. LL has said that they'll stop using palletized texture rendering in a future release, but it's likely to be 1.22 or 1.23 just due to time constraints.)

Surely not nVidia?
01-10-2009 14:33
From: Gianna Farina As I understand it, nVidia stopped supporting palletized textures after 175, so this isn't actually an SL bug.) I have been using a GeForce 8600 GT card since July of last year and I didn't experience this problem until December. I'm not sure which driver I am using but I recall updating that when I had the new graphics card installed. Also I'm running version 1-21-6-99587 of the client, which I downloaded and installed on the 17th of October. I believe it is the latest release. However the texture issue did not arise until December and I am sure that I wore the affected textures during the interim because they are favourite clothing items. Yet even if this issue were a problem with the driver, how could my alt still be viewed on this same system, wearing copies of the same clothes, without having the same texture problem?

Fix pending ...
01-13-2009 00:46
According to the main JIRA on this issue, VWR-7957 (there were loads of them), a fix is pending for this issue. Indeed, version 1-22-5-107013 of the current Release Candidate viewer appears to render palletized textures properly now - although it is not automatic since a rebake (Ctrl+Alt+R on Windows systems) is still required and that in itself takes some time to correct. I think this might be because the cache is emptied on first running the newly installed viewer and most textures need to be rendered afresh. I mention this because I mistakenly assumed the JIRA was misinformed and reopened the issue. They will probably be after me with a big stick first thing in the morning. I still don't fully understand why the problem seems to have occurred spontaneously and erratically. As Gianna pointed out, it is connected to NVIDIA's decision to stop supporting palletized textures.

Not supporting palletised textures will screw up quite a few GIF's and Animated versions (although not sl relevant ) guess nVidia think the days of the GIF are long gone.

My friend has this problem. It has something to do with the new nVidia drivers.
My friend was told to install the first look client, where it is apparently fixed. It does work... even if the voice chat on the first look client causes him to get increasingly louder and louder until he's unintelligible.

Nvidia Driver bug fix
03-11-2009 21:22
AS WAS PREVIOUSLY STATED, NO.... ITS NOT THE LINDENS MESSING IT UP!!! This applies to ALL nvidia cards that use the most current driver download set As was previously stated in post above, this is the only thing you can do and to note that you may have to do Ctrl+Alt+F7 then Ctrl+Alt+R rebake BETWEEN EACH ITEM OF CLOTHING BUT IT DOES WORK... As XP will use only the most current driver of whatever, your stuck with it, even if you roll back the drivers, it wont work. If you reinsall windows with the previous driver set that will work but its not recommended as its a pain in the ass and also there will be a fix in the next driver set. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Gianna Farina I saw this on a post and it has worked for me so far
Inworld menu, Advanced (Ctrl+alt+D if it is not on the menu) Then-Rendering-Features Uncheck Palletized Textures (quick way to do all of above is: Ctrl+Alt+F7)
Rebake Textures (Ctrl+Alt+R)
No more explanation on this topic is necessary Need to do this each time you log in.
No need to relog, reinstall, clear cache or change gfx card or driver

Shag, I'm sorry you are having this problem, but in my opinion it's counter-productive to make a post that's difficult for others to read (all caps, little punctuation) when you are making an attempt to communicate.

So... from what I'm hearing, I'm to believe that those of us that went out and bought our fancy expensive new nvidia cards for Second Life (even though we lie to ourselves and say we needed them otherwise) are actually WORSE OFF for doing so?
If this really is the case... does anyone know if there is something LL is going to do on their end that can fix it ?

I believe the palletised textures thing is fixed in this viewer. What is the problem you are having? I have an 8800 gtx and have had very occasional glitches easily fixed by rebaking - are you having worse troubles?

As Osprey suggests, the problem has indeed been fixed in the latest release of the viewer. You may need to update the driver for your nVidia card also. Go to the nVidia web site where they have a neatly automated system to manage this.

Go to the nVidia web site where they have a neatly automated system to manage this. In response to both... I just checked the site, and I have the lastest driver for my card... (GeForce 9800 GTX+ Black Edition) which is version 182.08. And I downloaded the newest viewer last night before posting here. The forum was my last resort. It happened with my computer before this also, which had a radeon card in it, so I'm not sure how nVidia can be to blame. =\ The problem I'm having is that I will put on boots & as soon as I put on the shoe shape, my legs are black. If I try to make pants or a shirt, I can't shorten the legs or arms. The slider moves, but I look like I'm wearing a wetsuit. It's REALLY annoying. I've tried editing appearance, rebaking, relogging, cache clearing, and the option to disable palletized textures isn't even in my menu. It is completely skipped. It goes from the 6th option (Fog) to the 8th option (TestFRInfo).

I'm still using older drivers (for an unrelated reason), specifically 6.14.11.7519, but I wouldn't try changing drivers unless you just feel like playing around, as it's not guaranteed to do anything.
