Yeah, Eric. I lost a raffle ball yesterday in exactly the same way, but it only cost me 299 and I bought another. You're right, it's nowhere in the world or inventory from what I can make out...

I tried uploading the same image 5 times, couldn't put on my boots in three different sims, even had one sim restarted, still no boots. relogged repeatedly, teleports failing everywhere... no friends online... I give up. I'm gonna watch a movie.

Eric, we're trying to bring bugs like the one you saw to LL's attention. Certain actions like rezzing a no-copy item while the grid is overloaded can result in content loss. Would you please vote up our Jira issue to let LL know you were affected by it?

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-114

You'll need to visit https://jira.secondlife.com first to log in using your SL name and password. Then visit that link and click "vote" on the lower left.

Linden Labs should set up a bot that monitors Asset server response time and issues warnings to the grid when they slow below a certain minium.

As far as us mere mortals go.

DO not do any work with hard to replace or expensive items whent here over 30K people loged on. (for now anyway- I realize eventually this number will go up)

I wouldnt go shopping during those tiems either - I had one customer pay me 8 times for an item becuase LL was so Laggy the Box wasnt giving her the folder (just a prim set "for sale - contents" )

Its simply self interest not to risk your Inventory or Money that way.

Done Lex. But I have to observe, I wouldn't have without your handy links!
That Jira thing is a sick joke. Possibly the most confusingly jumbled geekoid interface something could be given. About as intuitive as a screen of static!
If THAT'S the way LL thinks - no wonder things are in this mess.

Actually, I find it a pretty effective way of organizing things. If you find it incredibly geekoid, don't forget that geeks are who make a world like Second Life tick :)

It took about a month for me to get a reply when I e-mailed support about a missing script I had, by which point I'd completely recoded it anyway. And the response was along the lines of "try detaching and re-attaching the item". *sigh*

My missing script (and my report said as much) went missing from an object in-world. How does one go about detaching it? Heh. Tried de-rezzing and re-rezzing but eh, script's gone for good with apparently no way to recover it. All I needed (and would have been happy with) was an older version from my home sim's cache/save-state or such, and I asked for as much. Sure it would have been a day out of date perhaps, but it would have been there. But with a month response time to give a response of no use I'd already given up hope and replaced it.

It may not seem a big deal compared to an expensive lost object, but it was a pretty heavy amount of work to get that script done, and I can't even remember how I did some of the features I've been unable to reproduce in the new one.

*shakes head* LL need to do something about the tremendous load and difficulty in retrieving lost items as it's not going to get any better before it gets rapidly worse!

If you're going to rez something, rez a copy item first and see if it fails or not (don't rez a plywood prim because that will still work).

If you're going to pull random things out of your inventory, do it on one of the older sims, and not on one that's hosted in Texas (most/all of the class 5 seem to be).

I brought the subject of inventory/asset self back up some time ago. All I got was a "thousand" reason why we couldn't do it. And stupid suggestions like filling a container and putting it somewhere (as if its magically no longer in our inventory).

Its almost like nobody realizes that their 2nd Life is centered around their very expensive (money and time) inventory and assets.

Like why aren't we all screaming about lack of backup here???

LLabs really should let us backup our inventory! Lost objects that can`t be replaced is a bigger issue then anything else. Newbies only wants expensive objects, ( they sit in money chairs and get the money that way and buy )Hence they bitch that they spent money ( degress sorry ) ..........
I want to backup my inventory! make it happen LLABS!
