Here's the situation: - 2 different plots of land, 2 different owners (im one of them), exact same video URL
I make an object that has the video texture on it. It plays on my land for us both.
I give a copy of the object to another user. It plays on my land for us both.
We go to that users land.
I play video on an object I previously made and place it on their land. We both crash.
Other user plays video on object I made that I gave them. We both crash.
Other user plays video on the "Media Player" object from the library in their inventory on their land. It plays.
I play video on the "Media Player" object from the library from MY inventory on their land. I crash.
This is using the same URL keep in mind on both parcels of land.
Update: Tried this again with another user. Same results except that this user took the Media Player from their inventory and couldnt get the URL to play on their own land. But they came to my land and the URL worked fine.

Found a fix that so far has worked flawlessly for 3 people I've tested this with:
If someone gives you an object that has the default media texture on it (or any media texture), replace that texture with your own media texture even if they are the same. So if you want to play steaming video on your land with an object that you didnt create or isnt using your media texture, simply replace the texture and tada, no more crashes. At least not with everyone I've seen so far. Before we were crashing everytime.

I'm finding the textures are tricky. i've had difficulty with linked objects and changing a single prim face to the movie texture like on a PC or TV screen object (it instead played on the other linked object textures - "Blank" - and then Also played on my neighbors). wild. i got some interesting screenshots of that. pretty funny.

YES! I used the *Default Media Texture and kept crahsing right quick outta SL. I used a texture that I uploaded pre-1.6, and it now works perfectly!

Well, it worked once. Now I crash every other time I try.

From: Postmark Jensen Well, it worked once. Now I crash every other time I try. Make sure nothing else on the land has the old texture.

as mentioned earlier, i've found Linked objects and textures to be an issue. both with TextureAnim and with movie textures. i took these photos right after 1.6 - i was constructing a PC for my desk and all the prims were linked. i believe i unlinked the screen first, then placed the movie texture on the one face and it worked okay. but upon linking it to the rest of the object..... http://img162.exs.cx/img162/2439/moviesunleashed5hm.jpghttp://img215.exs.cx/img215/5483/moviescrawlingoutofmyoffice6rc.jpghttp://img144.exs.cx/img144/7409/andspreading6lz.jpghttp://img144.exs.cx/img144/2821/andspreadingsomemore3qm.jpgnotice the last two were on neighboring parcels with no movie settings engaged. i tried a few variations of this: both linking as root and not, swapping from "blank" texture to the "default" texture. nada. so i had to add another prim that wasn't linked (you can tell by the white border around the screen).... http://img144.exs.cx/img144/1143/movieinmyoffice3yx.jpgnow it works fine so long as i don't link it. and i went through the same thing with my TextureAnim objects - except instead of spreading the beauty it just booted me straight out of SL. another interesting thing: i was showing my neighbor how to get movies and gave her my texture, script and URL for her Land. when i was on MY Land, her screen would play too. and it was in sync with mine. fwiw....
