Well I haven't gone very far, but the new snapshot facility - doubtless created in response to the myriad users clamouring for it - is awful. Clumsy, full of pointless options. So why? What does it do better than the old one?

And while the landowners now have 300 plus ban slots - why do Estate owners still only have 63? It's fairly obvious that if you have a large estate your requirements for banning the current rising tide of troublemakers is likely to be in excess of someone with even a large mainland plot.

I have no idea what all the UI waffle was about - because I stopped looking due to being distracted by the VILE pink menu bar at the top of my screen. Surely this is a joke? I really hope so - I'd hate to think that a UI designer actually thought such a distracting and out of place component was a 'good idea'.

I've heard a few complaints about updates in the forums, but this one really does seem poorly conceived and executed. Maybe someone in charge of development needs to step back and take a long hard look at what's going on before they wade any deeper into the mire!

I agree with the snapshot statement, it took me 10seconds to take a snapshot and save it, now it takes me 30seconds.

Those with the pink menu bar. Are you using the god hack?

I do use the god hack when I'm trying to create items such as buildings or high detailed items where I need complete control of the camera and select distance, my menubar is pink.. it's annoying as hell, and I'm not sure why it's pink, either way, I havn't been able to really use SL since the most recent update, considering every time I zoom in close enough to start editing an object of mine properly (Such as moving the textures to match up with the textures on another prim) it lags to hell, then completely stops responding, while using 99% of my CPU.

Dang those controls for moving the camera around stink. It's so complicated and cumbersom now really... what were they thinking now instead of a simple position and click you have that mess to deal with after you take the shot.

You mean the L$2500 tool from SLEX that improves camera positioning and object selection tools? If so, I certainly am.
And seeing it didn't use to affect the menu bar, why is it doing so now?

Because when you go around hacking your software, it might break?? Christ, I can't even come up with an appropriate response to this question.

I mean the tool that makes the client think you are in god mode. And now being in god mode means a pink toolbar. This is used to make sure all Linden's are aware of when they are in god mode. Yes, it is ugly.

for all we know, this update uncovered old bugs never before addressed. that which does not kill ya, yada yada yada... ;)

useless features

while we are ragging....

was it really necessary to change FIND to SEARCH and move the tabs around so that All is on the other side? It seems like it just was busy work for some developper. If LL just focused on bug fixes we could probably tone down the updates to say 1 per quarter?

They suffered, and managed to use weird workarounds until some smart third party developer solved the problem and are now cashing in big on selling the tool.

Lindens, PLEASE give us the option to use the old version of the Snapshot tool! Now I can't see what's going on when I take a snapshot!

A feature that can't be turned off, isn't a feature... it's a bug.

April. Three times that month.

Yes, its sad. but I remember it because it so appauled me. In my one year of SL, April saw more grid outages than the other 11 months combined. At least that I noticed. I wonder if the scoundrels involved ever got their due punishment...?

As for taking longer for snapshots, what? You're just getting used to a different UI layout, says me. Give it a month or two and you'll be doing things in ten seconds again; you're just used to the old arrangement of buttons and such.

Amen to this!

My problem is that when I take pictures, I end up freeze framed with, for example, a fine shot of my avatar looking down at the snapshot button. Meanwhile, I can't see what is happening in-world until I do something with the shot. It used to be I could shoot and interact. I preferred that.

new version crashed twice in 5 minutes for me. Seems to crash when I try to SIT!!

Also looking at MAP froze me up as well. And all of my LANDMARKS are missing..or are not loading. VERY UNSTABLE.

Using the Mac version.

Not sure if I understand you saying your AV looks down...as meaning toward the ground when you press the snapshot button?

Solution = do what I do, hit (<ctrl> + <shift> + S) to take your snapshots, its alot easier and faster. Havn't experimenting the new snapshot function since preview (not that much) so I dunno if its how I explained.

As for not being about to see what's happening or interact, yeah...I'm hating that too. In my opinion...you should have the option to freezeframe. A checkbox like (show UI in next snapshot) was. Just my thoughts.

Thank you Kelly. We agree on something!:) I thought that was going to be the explanation somehow.

NOW, how about we get the enhanced camera and selection controls in the normal client? They are, as you obviously know already, a huge help in building large structures and working with large land parcels.
Then those of us who use the tool could junk the rest of the rubbish and loose the pink tool bar (notice how tastefully the pink clashes with the lime green L$ balance figures - that's soooo classy).

Change with improved functionality or improved efficency is good.
Change for the sake of change, or just to introduce a few gimicky visual effects is not.

Try as I may I can't see any great improvement in the new snapshot feature.

This is absolutely true. Thanks for noticing.

Well I know a lot of Liaisons were really unhappy with the color. I think I'm the only one who's pleased as punch with it, so count on me to customize it later anyway if it gets changed back to something more neutral.

I'm for the greater good and what's in the best interest of my colleagues and the community at large. la! :)
