I was wondering if someone has an older version of SL, namely 1.18.5 and has not been on SL in the intervening months but now wishes to return, given how many differences there are between that build and 1.20.x (current d/l), would it be better to uninstall 1.18.5 and go from there or can you simply update to 1.20.x from 1.18.5?

It is ALWAYS better to do a complete uninstall and a clean re-install of Second Life, even for a minor incremental change. Aside from some chat logs, you lose nothing by wiping the slate clean first, and gain a lot in terms of cleaning up damaged cached files and the like, caused by memory leaks and other glitches.

If you're running a bullshit operating system like windows, that is. Linux and OS X users need not heed this--and probably don't even know what it means anyhow. |

Unfortunately, the Mac version of SL also has memory leaks and other crappy code. My main system is Mac, and I've been using SL for three years on Mac. I get MUCH more stable transitions from one SL release to another if I do a clean un-installl and fresh install each time, rather than using the option to "update" the existing install from the website.

Oh, a very professional sounding report from obviously an enlightened user of "Gods OS", I was unaware LL made perfect uncorruptable viewers for Linux & OS X, have they got voice on Linux yet? Please let us know when all major software comes out in versions for other OS. Not meaning to insult other reputable users of alternative operating systems but it's laughable to hear your type skype on how perfect their OS is, then next minute whine "where's the Linux version?" You sound like the internet equivalent of a Ford vs Chevy knuckledragger, particularly seeing you don't comprehend the concept of a clean reinstall. _____________________

SL is based on a common codebase, for all and every version you compile, with all and every bug in all and every OS
![]() The best is to uninstall the previous version. Remove the cache and user_settings directories (location is depending on OS) and do a fresh install. Especially the user_settings from an older version can create a major headache. |

Well after reading this thread, I seen NO ONE suggest the thing that this user asked. NO YOU cannot got back to an earlier version as if you did, you would be prompted to download the 1.20.17 again anyways! I have been through this already and also the god dam inventory still dont work worth a sht in 1.20.17. I have sent jira this bullshit for an invetory and still has yet to be fixed. Someone tell Torley and Philip their shit sucks and there emplyees dont give a shit and dont listen to the users... HARK!!! I am A PAID user, and this shit if for the birds... I am not pay anymore for this shit. Foxglove.. no, will not do any good. Read above |

I found an old installer for 1.18.5.3, that allowed me to upgrade to Bleeding Edge, and these are allowed, by changing some phrase. I don't think I've ever seen the entire command line, as Windows is a Turn-Key friendly system, that doesn't want people looking at nuts or bolts. If I find where I can change that phrase to something that will guarantee access for 1.19.0.5, I'd probably use "Screw Windlaugh," and have an efficiently working system, with access to my Inventory. There's supposed to be a security patch, for 3rdParty Providers, but keeping the streams off is probably more effective. |

Installed, where's the phrase
10-11-2008 21:07
I've reinstalled my old 1.19.0.5 RC as the main Second Life, but can't find the phrase by which to sneak past the upgrade mandates. Any idea how to do that?
Oh, I've opened the Widget, using <ctrl><alt>d to open debug mode, <ctrl><alt>v to view admin options and <ctrl><shft>g to open the widget. I don't think it works, unless you're in God Mode, and it's hard to know if you are, when off line. Found how to add to the command line: --channel "Foo do you" |

Where to find prior viewers
10-13-2008 12:48
Where I've been finding older versions, is all over my desktop, which seems to have an installer with every version I've ever downloaded, and it's getting crowded. If you've had a better version, you've probably the installer. You'll want to open Properties, once installed, and Short Cut -> Target -> add a command line parameter --channel "No Windlag"

You can get the Nicholaz viewers here:
http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/ They are patched with the security fix. The Bleeding Edge (BEx) runs off the LL 18.5.3. It has Voice, no Windlight, and the old style interface. It is very stable and relatively quick. The Old School (OS) is based on 18.0 and does not have Voice . The BE seems a bit quicker in my ecperience. The Eye Candy (ECf) runs off the LL 1.19.4. The Snowblind runs off of the 1.20 viewer, when Dazzle was foisted on the masses. Nicholaz Viewers are easy to install. He has links to the corresponding LL viewers, then his patches are just downloaded and copied into the SL directory. Then just create a shortcut to his exe and you are good to go. _____________________
