New IM behavior is really annoying!
04-26-2007 13:50
Yes,

This change in IM behavior is SUPER ANNOYING. If you are in a big group like "Lucky Chair Fans" it makes it virtually impossible. Tons of left the session messages. And these left the session messages causes the tab to flash, indicating there is a new message to be read - which makes it even more obnoxious.

Whoever thought this was an improvement was seriously misinformed.

We at a minimum need a way to filter these messages.

PLEASE!

Also, I am getting errors when I try to IM, something about not having proper permissions. I have never seen this before 1.15

I also get those messages about not having proper permissions to send an IM to a group! And worse yet, I can never send a group notice either.... thanks a lot LL!

Now the clubs are IM'ing with notices, oh wow, this is really bad! 1 message, followed by a few hundred AV has left the session messages! Makes group IM useless.

Bad, very very bad.

Is this the best place to complain about this? Or is there a more effective way to get one's displeasure heard?

its IMPOSSIBLE to use the group ims now.

one person asks a question, and any answer is BURIED in spam of twenty lines going by of 'blah blah has left this session.' not just once, but they 'leave' multiple times.

AND, if you close the group im window so you leave the session, it opens back up again with, yes, more messages of more people leaving. again. and again. there's so much of this spam, you can't follow the conversation, assuming there is one.

the 'blah blah' has left message used to be useless and mildly annoying. now it is completely detrimental to the im system. please... kill it. just do away with it altogether. please!

I COMPLETELY AGREE...

I run a relatively small club with a group list of about 150 or so names. Well, Group Notices have not worked for me since the update... and now... the Group IMs are even worse. Not only do you see the huge list of "so and so has left this session" but if someone happens to actually *respond* in the group IM - it opens BACK UP AGAIN!!!! Now I feel like I'm just spamming my group members by sending anything out, and that disheartens me greatly.

THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

Group IM now an act of griefing!
04-27-2007 13:34
One group I am in has now made it part of the covenant to forbid using group IM's. It is considered an act of griefing! There are 900 member in the group and we're not talking about 20 lines of left the session messages - it's hundreds for each person that haplessly makes a comment.

A nice simple thing they could do is put the number of current listeners in the group in the tab:

MyGroup (10)

Shows there are 10 members with the group window open.

The 1.15 release notes said something about knowing when you were the last one in the group - I fail to see how this has been accomplished, can someone clue me in on how you know? What would be more useful would be a side panel (hidable) in the window that showed a list of people currently active in the group IM.

Unusable IMs and messages.
04-28-2007 04:43
The leave messages have to be suppressed or even moderately sized groups are unusable.

The permissions issue needs to be fixed as it appears to be occurring randomly. ie, when you receive it, you can simply resend and it will likely work.

The process that allowed this, clearly untested, massively broken, set of changes to make it into a distribution version, needs to be addressed and resolved.

While fixing things, the long promised conversion to Jabber, and removal of the "temporary" 25 group limit should enjoy attention too.

Groups on the virge of dying
04-28-2007 05:08
This "feature" (bug) is really going to kill the groups. God knows I have left groups before because of everyone's need to reply to a simple "hi". One reply is enough - and I did so BEFORE this "improvement" was introduced. (You should actually never say "hi" in group IMs, go to the place instead if you want to hang out).

This is perhaps a very well thought of "feature" encouraging groups to disappear by going smaller in the first step.

the "FIX" for IM's is stupid
04-28-2007 05:17
The smart person behind "fixing" the IM system needs to re-think what was done. The groups are now so annoying to be in I want to drop them all, but I can't. This needs to be fixed ASAP! Or just returned to the way it was before linden labs decided to "fix" another thing that was not broken.

Suppress Leave Announcements
04-28-2007 05:17
This version of IMs has made class and other event announcements totally useless. The same goes for groups that chat about technical issues. I don't need to know who has left, in most cases, and I have other ways to check if I really need to know if someone has crashed or is just taking their time about replying.

I actually have no use for knowing when so and so left the session, so I don't need it there to begin with.

Bright side is, if it isn't fixed, I will just be groupless.
