At least for me this was a very big improvement.

Yeah, land textures are almost instant compared to what they were. Me like :)

Still Sucks

Land textures were loaded immediately, but every other texture was still showing up as the gray/white frame when I finally quit 10 minutes after logging in. This is rucking fidiculous.

You know, if it was really an SL problem, I think all or most of us would be having similar problems. Things are running great for me. I have a decent machine but nowhere close to state-of-the-art. I think we need to start considering the possibility that maybe, just maybe, those who are still having major problems have config problems on their own machines that are causing these issues.

Heh, ya think? :) You shouldn't say that as the many former computer consultants will tell you they know what they are doing and you are just special because your system works well.

And then there are those of us that have completely disproved that to be the case. But if it works for you, just assume everyone else is wrong and has a shit pc, why dontcha?

I was wondering if you had to be making a profit off SL before you adopted the "blame the luser" stance; there's another checkmark in the "yes" column.

These are not the 'droids you are looking for. SL is not being renamed Grey LifeĀ®.

Boy, that didn't take long...

BTW SL is working really well on all four of my machines ranging from an 1800+ amd, 2600 P4 laptop, 2600+ amd to a 4400+ duel core X2. As of the last update, SL is working better and faster than it ever has since I started back in 1.3. Then again I am the exception, not the rule apparently. Strong in the force this one is hmm.

This forum is for "1.7 feature feedback." While this may technically make this forum a complete waste of space, it remains the stated purpose of this forum.

Glad to hear some of you aren't having problems. That's awesome.
Most of us are still having problems. Guess What? LL knows there's a problem and they are working on it. It's NOT client side. Perhaps you should read their announcements before you decide the rest of us are crazy or need to fix our pcs.

Check this, and think again.

I think M2 might want to send out an apology to it's readers...

You are right, the problem was server side and the update yesterday seems to have fixed the majority of the problem for at least four people, possibly many more. If you are still having problems then it is likely to be on the client side, network related or perhaps an individual server having issues.

LAND textures are loading fast, as the update specified. Other textures, however, are still borked.
That ain't fixed yet.
But, I'm glad it's working for you.

All cynicisim and accusations aside, while it doesn't seem to have addressed all the problems, the new roll-out and client do seem to have helped my system a bit. I have a low-end system - a Mac Mini. Just barely meets the published minimums. and it is better for me.

Textures loaded a bit faster, and most notably they stayed cached much better once loaded. Over all, the frame rate was better. Nothing stellar, but better. Maybe a 30% improvement.

I think the client can still be improved, and that they also probably need to re-think what they say about the minimum video card standards.

It's not ten minutes for me in most places, but the pleasure of flying around is completely destroyed.

My computer hasn't slowed down since the time before the company changed their software from versions that worked to versions that don't work. The change is in the software or hardware Linden Lab is running, or in the client software they provided to users.

Yah, I get textures that are still taking 5 minutes to load.

The "teleporting" texture on my copy of Cubey's Mark III teleporters hasn't loaded successfully since 1.7 came in. The teleport is over before it's shown up.

I have now had some textures that so far as I can tell would never load.

I moved about a bit yesterday, and found (to me) that its nearly back to the degree it was before 1.7. That's on the desktop, which I would consider an 'above-average' system - in particular a P4-3.0, an Nvidia 5700LE and a Windows install just over a week old.

Still not up to par with what it was a year ago, when I built this desktop. The decline started about mid-1.6 or so.

Sure there are still problems, but it's a lot better
12-22-2005 07:53
Yes, textures other than land are still too slow, and I still think that the caching algorithm is either broken or needs a very serious redesign.

None the less, after this update, my SL experience is far better than before.
