cheesyBeacon Debug Settings doesn't persist across sessions.
If the gray gradient on the beacon is the cheesy effect, it also doesn't do anything.
People who do things like make the beacon fuzzy would be of greater value if they got paid to do nothing.

A little inconvenient
08-25-2006 20:56
I figured this was the most pertinent thread...
The new 'cheesybeacon' map beacon look is alright, and I like that it's a billboarded texture now rather than a cylinder mesh, but now it has a major flaw - it only goes UP and not DOWN.
What happens if you're at a much lower altitude (for example, the beacon is in a sky box)? You can't easily see at what point you should stop on the ground to fly up, or build a box to sit-edit-move yourself to the beacon in the sky.
Just a little inconvenient.

I was in the Client - Debug Settings - Cheesy Beacon when I wrote that post. I hadn't even seen the cheesy beacon. I thought the new beacon with the gray blur that doesn't go all the way down was the cheesy beacon, it looks cheesy to me.
The real cheesy beacon is turned on with Client Rendering Cheesy Beacon. It makes a red dome cover almost the entire sky on my system. Extremely useless and ugly.
I like interfaces that are fairly minimal. The coolness of SL is supposed to come from the things the users build, not from lousy gimmicks in the interface.

Attempting to change your homehelp URL is accepted in the debug settings - but log out and log back in again and it changes to TRUE or FALSE
( It actually does load a web site called TRUE believe it or not )
Are these settings supposed to be validated ?
And are they supposed to be persistent ?
