Ratings Refund ... HA!

So i guess as of the 1.15 upgrade (Wednesday) the rating system, poor though it was ... is gone.

I've rated 84 people at L$50 each, which comes to L$4200. i suppose its horribly naive of me to imagine that i might get any of that money back? its not a huge amount of course but frankly i dont like it that linden feels happy to just wipe out features that people have paid for. In fact its pretty disgraceful.

Wot are they gunna do next? Delete all the textures so they can charge L$10 for all those uploads again?

I thought ratings are $25 each?

I think it used to be L$50 and they reduced it later.

I thought they were 1$ then 2$ then 5$ then 25$

They never were 50 I dont think.

They were $25 already but the time i joined - And we got PAID for our ratings in stipends bonuses then.

Anyone with ratings from before June of 05 already got paid for their ratings many times over.

What are you Nuts???? Don't give LL ideas about how to make more money....

If you rate(d) for appearance AND building, you have/had to pay 50 $L (2 x 25 $L)

i don't believe we will get any kind of refunds for the rating, rating was a service already paid, they don't really have to refund anything as we used the said service for a long time now.

I suppose thats possible of course if you always rate 2 catagories. And never 1 or 3.

i guess those poor people who hurried up and rated me this last week before ratings were removed really should have tipped me the 25 ells instead. :/

Back when I started if I was rated 4 times ina week it meant id get more than 100L back on stipend day.

There was a "number of new ratings" and a "total ratings" component to your ratings stipend bonus.

So back in the day .. being rated was better than being tipped in some ways (depending on the ammount)

Folks, I know it may seem like LL owes you money right now, but that really just wouldn't ake sense. That kind of huge, nearly unilateral influx of newly created money into the system would result in rapid inflation... the new money wouldn't be worth anything. The US Government could go into a printing frenzy and give everyone in the country $1,000,000 USD... but if they did, it wouldn't be worth very much.

Consider the fact that before ratings were taken away, you were perfectly willing to spend that money and let it go. You DID get a benefit from it in that the rating was around for awhile before now. No one ever promised you that the rating would be permanent... and, in fact, there was talk of expiring old ratings a year or two ago.

It's not like you've just lost thousands of linden dollars. If you hadn't spent that money rating, you might have spent it tipping or buying other products.

When I first started SL a little over 2 years ago, ratings were 5L per...it was a good way to show friendship and basically give thanks to people who you admired for their work, personality, and appearence.

Over time this changed to 25L per, but I still used it having spent in upwards of 200usd, there were/are many others who did the same and to an even greater extent.

In looking at Joshua Linden's notes I noticed the following * Rating system removed from Profile*

This is disturbing if true on a few levels. I can see removing rating land or objects, and I can list many other less useful features that are still around and that have not garnered the financial gain or loss (depending on which side of SL you are on) as a result.

Hopefully Josh made a typo...hopefully he cannot be serious about removing the rating system, which for all intensive purposes is a slap in the face to long time residents and even newer ones.

I joined in November 2005 and never made a Linden from the ratings system. I did not know this was still about until giving Hermia Linden a IM today. Today the over 100 ratings I gave are gone and for nothing! I would like a full refund for my ratings given. I do not expect it but until now Linden Labs has not taken anything that was bought. Well it is on the "record" no, Bloody Wonderous!

Honestly, get over it. I never ever bothered with the ratings system at all because I didn't care to be judged by a number.
At the time you gave those ratings and considered that the cost was worth it for some stupid RATING_GIVE++ call, knowing that all you'd get is a slightly bigger amorphous number.

Just let the ratings system die in peace and let LL keep the L$ they "made" out of it, let the sinks work like they're supposed to and stop demanding refunds, it only makes the value of the L$ go down.
