It's been mentioned on multiple occasions by various and sundry Lindens that the 1.7 release will bring a native Linux implementation of the SL client. Will 1.7 Preview testers have the opportunity to test with said client? Additionally, what progress has been made on an alternative to the Apple Quicktime implementations found under OS X/Win32 to enable viewing of QT content under Linux?

I too am looking forward for this. Besides, MPlayer can be embedded to play the movies.

I think you're going to have to wait. I was told that the Linux client was more of an idea than anything else at the moment. There's only one person working on it, and no ETA.

Great. I logged in to see if I could get it working in just Wine, and now I hear that the Linux version is going to be vaporware?

This does not bode well for LL.

State of the linux client last I heard:

From: Cory Linden's Town Hall 04/27

Jeska Linden: Osgeld Barmy: native unix-linux clients anytime soon?
Cory Linden: Being worked on as we speak. Not sure if it will be completed for 1.7, though.
...
Cory Linden: Oh, on Linux . . .that's being done by an outside contractor who happened to be available, which is why it's being worked on now. Plus the linux
port helps us catch bugs.
