Here's the scoop, post-update:
Auto updater failed to initiate transfer. Scratched the desktop application folder/icon, and ~/Library/Apllication Support/Second Life and all its contents
Manually download 10.1... and install
Client crashes with the dialog "Despite our best efforts, something unexpected has happened...etc
Note that neither the install process nor the runtime prior to the login failure are recreating the ~/Library/Application Support/Second Life folder.

That sounds like a permissions error to me if the folder isn't appearing, have you tried running /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app and doing a repair permissions on your machine to make sure things are set correctly?

I too had no problem running the Preview but now I am locked out, what gives? Are there any Macs on at this point?
