Perspective problem

I have a perspective problem, maybe someone can affirm it.

I made a sign, 3m high and thin. When I stand at the side of it and look straight to it, it looks well like a '|'. If I rotate my av / view, the sign gets an inclination and looks depending on rotation like a '\' or '/'. Anybody sees the same?

It actually makes sense and should be like that. After all the renderer is effectively doing a scene using five vanishing points (high, low, left, right, and deep), so an object that falls a little into "low" while being far "left" will be "non-vertical" due to the approximation of that lower vanishing point.

Hmm, could be. I have to prove that. With a little inclination it would be ok, but not 30-50 degrees.

You may have changed your field of view accidentally. Try pressing control-9. If that doesn't make things better, then could you post a screenshot?

I tried Ctrl-9, it didn't help. Btw, it's a 10x10x0.1 m sign.

That's not 30 to 50 degrees. That's like....10, at most. I'd bet that it's not over 5.

84.12 degrees from horizontal. 5.88 degrees from vertical. Meh, I lose my bet.

ok, sorry. I hadn't the picture here and it also depends on where you stand - in some cases the angle is even higher than in that pic but then I can't make a good snapshot. Fighting about the angle is not very helpful. You see that the inclination is there, don't you? So what's your answer? Is it correct or not?

My answer is that the renderer is working as it should and skewing the plane slightly as a result of the bottom (or top) vanishing point. If you really want, I'll boot up 3D studio or Maya and duplicate this.

Bear in mind, your camera view works on a fixed basis for point of view from the avatars aspect.. therefore the diminishing horizon would be more noticeable, the further away you are from your avatar.

Uhm... doesn't RL work this way too? I mean, I think if you were able to make a 10x10x0.01 piece of paper float in the air like that, then were able to turn your head and take a "picture", you'd find that it looked skewed like that, too. It's just that you're used to assigning something like that "vertical" in your mind. It only looks odd on a screen because you're not actually perfectly embedded in the 3d space.

That too (which I've done each time I've replied actually, looking at something vertical in my perifereal vission), but hadn't mentioned.
